The Great Blue Hole of Belize
The Great Blue Hole of Belize
The most famous is the second deepest marine blue hole (after the Dean Blue Hole in the Bahamas). This is the Great Blue Hole of Belize, located in a nearby atoll odds.
The Caribbean has an exceptional concentration of blue holes. A blue hole is an underwater cave, also called doline. Generally circular, with steep walls, they owe their name to the strong contrast between the dark blue due to the depth and turquoise blue of the rocks and other reefs in the vicinity. The large blue hole is located in the waters of Belize, Central America. It measures 300 meters in diameter and 120 meters deep! This blue hole is located near the center of the atoll "Lighthouse Reef" which is 80 kilometers from Belize City. In 1971, the Calypso and Commander Cousteau came, which made this jewel of the sea famous.
