New growing experiments, observations and progress
Growing from seeds indoors can be difficult at first...
We quickly learned the tricks of making a 1-per-week visit for maintenance to many of our facilities, watering and nourishment of the plants. Later on, we would find that deeper containers with their own water reservoir were most ideal for producing many trees.
Growing many seedlings together allows one to economize space with their pots, and of course get a lot of seedlings out of every unit. Also the pots are better for storing water and the root structure will help hold the plants together and keep in moisture.
We've tried many species and find that they are suitable for this cultivation method. Most spruces - Picea retroflexa, Picea glauca, etc.
Overall our trials have been promising, most seeds can be reliably germinated and grown indoors until 1 year + and ready to be transplanted outside.
