Ice Storm of December 2013 - Part 1

in #nature8 years ago

In December 2013 we had a sleet and ice storm that covered everything in
our garden and yard with a layer of ice!

That year winter had arrived more than 16 days early with a
vengeance to North Texas!

We had some broken tree branches and everything was
suddenly thrown into winter mode!

This was our pecan tree covered in ice!

Here's Pepper checking out the frozen mess covering everything!

This storm paralyzed the whole Dallas/Fort Worth Texas metroplex!
The roads were too slippery, schools and businesses closed down for the day!

Thankfully we haven't had an ice storm this winter
and I'm hoping it stays that way!

Tomorrow I'll share my photos of the bushes and flowers covered in ice.

Have you ever experienced an ice storm?

Although it's a pity for the trees, but the photos turned out great. We have the same weather at first, it rains at night with frost and everything is covered with ice in the morning. The trees are breaking with the severity of the ice.

Yes, it is beautiful! We were lucky, we were able to cut off the broken branches and the trees still looked pretty good. We still have all of them in our yard.

Cold weather has its beauty, it's beautiful - the dog is really cute

I agree the ice did look amazing on everything! Thank you!

You are always welcome

I remember that. We were in Fairview and it was hard to get out of our neighborhood. We were without power. It was out for about a week! We could see the transformers blowing up in the night - letting off a green glow in the sky. We went to my brother's in Allen because he had power the whole time. Less than 2 miles away! That was not a fun time. The icicles look really cool hanging off of your roof. :)

@violetmed = Wow. It is as if everything is sporting razor sharp ice knives. The picture of the roof gutter especially looks like a 1000 knives.
Thanks for sharing. I have never experienced an ice storm but could get a feel through your blog.

Ice in Texas!?! Never would have thought it possible! Has the world gone mad? (I think, Gaia is a little sad, for sure...)

Well, I live in the Northern Part of Texas, so we have always had very cold temps in the winter and sometimes snow, sleet or ice. The southern parts of Texas don't usually have ice storms!

Still had no idea! Always assumed sunny ranches and steaming hot cities. Blame it on Dallas.

Yep, steaming hot cities in the summer is right!! Also plenty of ranches all over Texas, but I don't live on one...I drive by some farms that are fairly close to my house! :)

It is snowing here tonight, hopefully it will melt tomorrow... great pics :)

What are these beauty and magnificence in those beautiful trees How I wish that on her side and took a picture in front of her
