Ratibida columnifera, commonly known as Upright Prairie Coneflower or Mexican Hat, is a species of flowering plant in the daisy family.

I photographed these flowers this morning in a park near my house.

My city is very good about seeding native wildflowers in parks and along roads.
I was very happy to see this lone butterfly on a flower!

Anyone know if this is a butterfly or a moth?
It looks like it has feathery antennae, so that would make it a moth, but I'm just not sure...

Update this is a butterfly! I sent the photo to a butterfly expert in Dallas, Tx.

He says it is a butterfly - either a Çommon Checkered Skipper or a White Checkered Skipper.

It would have to be examined closer to know the difference that can't be seen in a photo!

Anyway it is more likely to be a Common Checkered Skipper for the part of Texas I live in!

Anyway, isn't it a beauty?

Oh! So beautiful

So beautiful and nice looking. Really don't know any name of those insects but they are good to behold and was thinking out loud to myself

Science is an attempt by man to discover God while nature is an expression of God and His creative ability.

Wow ... now that is field of wildflowers. Wonderful photographic work, Violet:)

Hello @violetmed I loved the photo of the moth or butterfly is wonderful because you can see his head, his wings, his chest and his antennae, thanks for sharing.

Lovely wild flowers you have there.....your city must be so beautiful with all these flowers on the road side.

I couldn't identify any of those insects......i'll be going through your comment section to see if anyone can identify them so I'll learn.

Hi! My husband says moth. Funny, never thought of moths as pretty before.

The flower pics are excellent. Glad I ran across your post.

Thank you! Nice to meet you!

Nice to meet you as well.

Found this post in my feed so just went to visit your blog. Just the type of simple, spontaneous posts I enjoy. Photos are all well done.

Will try to check in often

I am not sure but I bet it is a moth because it is so fuzzy! I really love those flowers!!

Yes, I love these flowers!

My favorites are wildflowers. Then again there are so many beautiful flowers you photograph. Love these coneflowers. Kind of looks like a moth to me. 🐓🐓

Hi everyone, I found out this is a butterfly!
Most likely a common checkered skipper
