Wildflower Seeds Sown and New Plants Establishing Themselves!

Question - What does a flower or vegetable gardener do in the middle of winter?

Answer - Dream about spring and summer flowers and plants!

Back in the fall, I helped seed a green space(a protected areas of undeveloped landscape) near the elementary school that my children attended in our neighborhood.

The garden club from my city and some other volunteers seeded the area with a wildflower mix that is supposed to be be sown in the fall to get
established before winter.

Everywhere you see bare dirt, is where the 2 lbs of seed were sown!

I decided to order my own packet and make a new flowerbed in my backyard using the same seeds.

I watered them a little bit and then let nature take over.
Once a few rains came, the seeds started sprouting.

The above photos show what my new flowerbed looks like at present!

I'm just letting the leaves keep the baby plants warm and cozy.

Here is a photo of what flower seeds come in this mixture.

What have you planted and are looking forward to seeing in the spring?

Answer - The beautiful things that you planted in the life will give you beautiful things in all cases.
so nice my friend @violetmed

Thank you, have a great day!

Interestingly, if there are frosts, will they freeze? We plant garlic in winter, but it lies under the snow, it will only rise in the spring. I'm freezing now, but there is no snow, it probably will freeze. Thank you for an interesting article.

Hi @magnata. No, we have already had several days of below freezing temperatures and they are just fine! We are about to have another very cold week with temps below freezing again. These are all native flower seeds and that's why they can survive the freezes! Have a great day!

I have always wanted to try a wildflower seed mix. We have an area that we planted perennials in that needs filling it and I might try it with seeds this spring. I am in Illinois, so no planting for me right now, lol!

You should try the seeds. I have another mixture of wildflower seeds that I have to wait and sow them after the last freeze! I did that last year in another flower bed in the front of my house that is a western exposure.

I think I will give it a try as soon as it is safe to plant this spring.

That's quite a variety in the mix! It's awesome to see how well they are doing. The pollinators are going to love you come spring!

Yes, @hethur240, I can't wait!

Every year I promise myself to do just what you have done with the wildflowers . Thank you for the inspiration. 🐓🐓

So happy, I'm looking forward to my wildflowers I planted last year to start blooming this summer. I have Chicory growing.

Hope your seeds all sprout. Looks like a lot of fun flowers. I grow coreopsis/tickseed too, and I see you have that one on your list.

Thanks for your comment and good luck with your wildflowers @creativetruth!
