Nova Scotia Tartan in Crochet

in #needleworkmonday7 years ago

Hello #NeedleworkMonday fans. This week I want to share with you my attempt at crocheting a Nova Scotia Tartan. A tartan is a textile design of certain colours, arranged in a plaid stripe formation that was created to designate certain Scottish clans. A common example of a tartan can be seen in Scottish kilts.

The Nova Scotia tartan, designed in 1953 by Mrs. Bessie Murray for a trade display on sheep rearing, was adopted as the official provincial tartan 10 years later.

For my tartan I have started with a chain of 230 in red.

The first row, and all remaining rows, are made by double crochets with one space in between each.

The colours and number of rows are determined by the colours in the tartan pictured above.

The next picture shows the pattern half fininhed.

This is the finished pattern going lengthwise.

Now I will work on the weaving of chains into the spaces, going in the other direction. This will form the squares, or plaid pattern.

But you will have to wait until next week because this is as far as I have gotten right now. There will be lots of ends to work in so I am trying to figure out an easier way to do the vertical rows. Stay tuned!

Thank you for looking, and Happy Needlework Monday ,

Hello Friend how are you? I see you a lot in your husband's blog and it's good to follow you, I think it's going very well, let's wait until the next week to see how you are progressing

Hello! Thank you for your visit. I will follow you too. I hope to make some good progress by next week 😀

I know that if you do very good things, greetings to your husband and to Candy

I have seen them on TV I think they are very famous, you are doing very well, a greeting to candy and @brimax

Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog! Candy says Arf! 🐶

This is very neat, and look professional :). Love this.

Thanks for stopping by!

wow !!!! this is a very big project !!!!! I really like how you do it - beautiful bright colors. I am very interested in the continuation of your work. I wish you success in it, anise!

Thank you! I wanted to use some bright colours after my last project in all white!

What a great idea! You're making good progress. A friend of mine crochets blankets with sports icons on them. She can't count how many Toronto Maple Leafs ones she has made.

Thank you! I think I might not like making the same blanket over and over! Your friend is very dedicated.

She certainly is dedicated but I doubt she makes the same one twice in a row. That would be awful.

That's awesome ! I can't wait to see the next installment @anise 😍

Thank you! I hope it goes well...we shall see!

Wow, I like it already, your colour combination, very neat. I actually thought you wanted to make the exact same pattern as the first tartan above. But this pattern is also cool. Looking at the red rope its amazing to see the progress into a full tartan . thanks for showing the progress. Happy needleworkmonday

I am trying to make the same pattern. Hopefully it will look better when I finish the weaving!

Oh, well in that case let me take a seat then, please do show us how it turns out☺

I certainly shall 😀

Hey there! Oh now I see why you too are looking for solutions to the sewing in ends frenzy!! I am sooo looking forward to seeing the vertical lines added in this beautiful bright piece. I really love the colors you chose for this tartan. Very nicely and neatly done as always~ 😘

Thank you. I wanted to try something different so hopefully it will resemble the tartan plaid.

I’m sure it will! 😉

It's shaping up. I can't wait to see next week's post! Thanks for sharing your progress.

Thank you for visiting! 😀

You are really creative i must say. what an amazing colour combination 👌 really liked it☺

Thanks! I am hoping it is a success 😀

Yes off course it is your success ☺👍
