Living with wisdom: Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you. Proverbs 3:29

The Bible relates that the problem of evil began with humanity itself, with the sin of Adam and Eve as related in the Book of Genesis, and by this fact, in a metaphorical sense, concupiscence entered into the world. And concupiscence has consequences for mankind, because when men allow themselves to be led by it, they spurn God and his eternal wisdom, and surrender to a path dominated by destructiveness, chaos, and injustice, and so the suffering becomes very intense.
It is for this reason that wisdom—a discipline taught in the Bible's sapiential literature—becomes so important for human society. For when ignorance and deception are added to destructiveness, the worst possible situation arises. The most perfect science can thus fulfill a very important social function: alleviating suffering and chaos through education.
And the Book of Proverbs introduces Bible readers to this important science through its maxims and counsel. That is why the Book of Proverbs teaches, with an educational purpose, a form of the silver rule in a very subtle way with these words: "Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you" Proverbs 3:29. With this phrase, the Book of Proverbs does not demand that we do good, but at the very least, that we not increase suffering to our neighbor and collaborate with the destructiveness of others. Because, in addition to the Golden Rule, there is also another ethical principle: "Do not do to anyone what you yourself hate" Tobit 4:15. To understand this is the beginning, or an approach, to the common sense in man, because passions like hatred or envy lead man to madness.
With this spiritual truth, the Bible teaches that living wisely means living and acting according to principles. Because that is how an educated person lives securely and avoids destructive, unforeseen events in the long term. Thus, wisdom, the science of God, becomes the only spiritual path that can lead men to beatitude and true happiness.
