Armstrong studied aeronautical engineering at Purdue University and later earned a master’s degree in aerospace engineering. Before joining NASA, he worked as a test pilot, flying many experimental aircraft.
In 1969, Neil Armstrong became the commander of Apollo 11, the first manned mission to the Moon. On July 20, 1969, he stepped onto the lunar surface and said his famous words:
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
This historic moment made him a world hero. After returning to Earth, he received many honors and awards.
Neil Armstrong retired from NASA in 1971 and became a professor of aerospace engineering. He lived a quiet life away from the spotlight. Armstrong passed away on August 25, 2012, but he remains an inspiration to people all over the world for his courage, humility, and achievements in space exploration.
