The recovered-body count is still 1,252. The money story just changed. NVIDIA chief Jensen Huang has pledged USD 10 million to Nepal’s Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund — one of the largest private gifts announced since the 26 August flood.
NVIDIA’s $10 million
Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle thanked Huang on 3 September and said the pledge would go through the official fund. With this gift, Wagle said the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund has now passed Rs 10 billion.
Ten million dollars is about Rs 1.4 billion. That is far larger than the Solana logo auction ($166,946.50) reported in the last post. It is in the same dollar range as the UAE’s $10 million state package. It is still small next to a reconstruction bill of $4–5 billion.
Treat it as a pledge until the transfer hits the fund account. Same rule as the Solana raise: the receipt matters.
Other cash moving this week includes an ADB $5 million emergency grant, domestic corporate cheques, and earlier government-to-government aid. Do not add every headline into one total. Some money is grants, some is in-kind, some is still only a promise.
The human count, late Thursday
NDRRMA / Nepal Police, 3 September 2026
- 1,252 bodies recovered
- 4,216 missing on the NDRRMA list
Nepal Police has used about 4,875 - 11,993 rescued
- 5,135 injured in one NDRRMA tally
- 21,314 security personnel still deployed
Police breakdown of recovered remains:
- 476 men
- 126 women
- 44 girls
- 34 boys
- 428 partial body parts
- 82 bodies still listed unidentified
787 remains have been managed under scientific rules so DNA can still be run later. Samples have been taken from 1,083 deceased and from 591 relatives. Eighteen bodies found in India were handed to Nawalparasi West.
The mountain is wet again
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology warned that rain is falling in the upstream Bhote Koshi. Levels can rise again in the Bhote Koshi, the Trishuli, and smaller rivers in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
Road reality:
- Prithvi Highway is blocked at Krishnabhir in Dhading
- the Galchhi–Syafrubesi–Rasuwagadhi corridor is still closed in at least one section
- do not assume road access to Syabrubesi, Timure or Rasuwagadhi
- Tribhuvan Airport is open
- Kathmandu LPG supply is disrupted; fuel for relief is being prioritised
Tunnels and returns
The Trishuli-3A tunnel entrance has been opened. Crews are clearing mud behind it. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has talked about cutting in from above instead of only fighting slurry at the mouth. Joint India–China–Korea teams are still on site. The underground search has not produced a new survivor list.
One hundred and fourteen Nepalis stranded in Tibet have come home through Tatopani.
In Nuwakot the flood also killed as many as 15,000 pigs, 150,000 chickens and 500 buffaloes. The government has announced a business recovery package. Details will matter more than the headline.
What this update changes
Yesterday’s post was a $167,000 crypto auction against 1,252 dead.
Tonight the death toll is the same number, and a semiconductor CEO has put $10 million on the official fund.
Rain is back on the headwaters. The main highway west of Kathmandu is still cut. DNA has become a mass operation. A tunnel mouth is open. The mud behind it is the job.
