A mother surprised the doctors when awakened by a 23-day coma at the time her newborn son was placed in her wings.
Amanda di Silva, 28, suffering from epilepsy, had a crisis in her 37th week of pregnancy after a talk with her husband.

Concerned that this crisis could suffocate both mother and baby, doctors made it an emergency caesarean cut. But complications began immediately, forcing doctors to put it in the coma to stabilize - while her newborn son was placed in intensive care.

She spent weeks and she did not wake up from coma anymore. Nurse Fabiola Sa suggested placing the boy in her arms, a move that caused her heart beating to hasten and tears flowing down her face.

Silva, from Brazil, began slowly to improve and 23 days after she was in the coma, she was able to finally go home with her toddler.

"We have no scientific explanation of what happened, but it is clear that we should never underestimate the importance of skin-to-skin contact between mother and baby," the nurse said.
