My NYSC camp story
I didn’t like the idea of serving in my state of residence . Prior to camp, I already told my family I wanted to go far away from home to serve because I wanted to explore and travel, my mom was completely against it. I just had to give up and serve where my family was.
I went to camp on the morning camp activities started, because camp was about 30 minutes away from home, I was really unhappy about it, I knew I didn’t want to be there if it were up to me. But I went anyway.
the morning I left for camp<\sup>When I arrived, everywhere was crowded with other corp members arriving, cars were everywhere and there was no space to get in, so I dropped a few blocks away from the camp gate.
everywhere was crowded <\sup>After about 10 minutes, I was able to get to the gate, the security guys demanded for my call up letter which I presented and he told me to get in. On getting inside the gate, I was met with a huge crowd due to the security search going on, I stood for several minutes before it got to my turn, my box and bags were ransacked, I had to start arranging my stuff all over again.
After I was done arranging, I was directed to the next point which was to get my credentials checked and scanned, they a hostel was assigned to me.
We were taken to the hostel to settle down before by continuing with registration, I took a shower, changed my clothes and stepped out to get something to eat.Afterwards I went to the mosque to pray.
I went to the registration office after prayer, I met another huge crowd, this was around 5pm, we were on the queue from then until I was an to register around 11pm, I was very tired and hungry.
I went to mammy market to get food and took to the hostel, I ate, freshened up and went to beg. The next morning, I went to my platoon office to get my kits, none of it was my size anyway, I was glad I took my own whites along, so I didn’t get to use what I was given, just the khaki and boots. I wore the complete khaki once while in camp, because it was too tight on me.

I met amazing people and a lot of people from my school, we bonded. I will not say I enjoyed camp because I was tired 90% of the times, because I was sleep deprived too.
