Grilling gourami fish and wandering around the rice fields of Aceh Tamiang. January 29, 2026
Hello everyone.
Good morning! Don't just wake up, but rise! Today will be fun if you start it with a smile, said my friend in the refugee camp who always has an enthusiastic soul. This morning, without further ado, I got up and went straight to my activities. Cleaning dirty dishes, hanging out clothes to dry, and preparing a meal in the communal kitchen. Today's weather was the same as the previous days. In the morning the sun was so bright, even though it was bright, it was very beautiful.
I then grilled fish with my beloved grandmother in the communal kitchen in the highland courtyard. My relatives and I grilled fish with wood and used fish fuel. The fish we grilled, or often called grilled fish, was a freshwater river gourami. We got this fish from a local resident who caught it with his bare hands in the river where we usually get our water.
Today I was accompanied by small children in the refugee camp, they always have their own stories every morning, and the children here are of course very kind and friendly and not naughty, besides being cute, Anisa has a very calm and happy soul, Anisa Humaira is often called by her friends Anisa. They always go around with their friends in the highland refugee camp every morning. When I was grilling fish, I was followed by them, their friends also accompanied me and watched me grill the fish, Because in the highland area, we are very compact here and share food as a group.

At 4:00 p.m., I always go with friends to the highlands, walking around the local rice fields and forests. We've almost come to consider it our own village here, having lived here for almost three months. So, we're already familiar with the routes. Sometimes it's difficult to find internet, so we try to find a decent connection in the rice paddy settlements while walking, enjoying the scenery.
Nothing is impossible, even if we feel unwell. We all try to rise above the current situation. Because we know that our path and purpose are determined by ourselves, not by others. Therefore, we have the strength to face the challenges and obstacles that come our way.
This is the highland land access road that we often pass with friends when we're looking for new variations. This route has high-risk obstacles because the bridge is made of bamboo. In my previous post, I also shared the story of this bamboo bridge in the highland area. Living in the rice fields has many risks, so we are very careful when traveling around to find our respective needs.
It was 5:30 PM, if I'm not mistaken, because it was still very bright today, and the sun was still very hot towards evening. Children in the highlands often washed themselves in the river where we usually drew water. Lately, we've been collecting river water very often for our daily needs. There had also been no aid in the Aceh Tamiang area for almost a month.
We returned home before nightfall. It was already dark around 6:00 PM. We immediately headed home because it would be nighttime in a few minutes, and we had little activities that evening. We had walked quite a long way, about tens of meters from where we lived. It was nighttime, so our bodies were very tired and our legs ached. That was my varied moment today.
