Hello everyone.

Who among you hasn't felt bored when we're in a different place and far from old friends? Boredom is boring, but tonight, New Year's Eve? Usually, when we lived in our hometown, on New Year's Eve, we always looked for opportunities to do new things to prepare for the new year, like paying our salaries with friends and roasting chicken or corn on New Year's Eve.

But in the refugee camp, we felt much different. It felt very sad when we were here on New Year's Eve, because I hadn't seen my old friends for a long time. We were here with only the refugee residents and friends I'd only known for a little over a month, because our refugee camp was in the Aceh Tamiang highlands.

Every time I wake up in the morning, my grandmother usually wakes me up, and my grandmother prepares some food for me for breakfast. I always think about that, but now when I wake up in the morning I always see residents busy doing their own activities, some are repairing tents and some are going to the river to wash clothes.

I see the children here filled with sadness. Every day they feel anxious and restless. These young children, at their age, still need a higher education so they can become useful people in the future. But right now, they can only see the current situation and circumstances. They desperately need guidance and comfort. In fact, they are always away from their mothers and fathers every morning and evening, because their fathers go out every morning to earn food and other income.

Honestly, we haven't received much assistance lately. We usually receive food and other aid throughout the week, but now, for some reason, we haven't received it as often. Could it be that the government is busy preparing for the New Year? It would be very strange if the government were busy preparing for the New Year. The people of Aceh are currently in deep mourning.

Today, we have 8 hours of internet access, the most we've ever had. The government said that, in preparation for the New Year, their teams will do their best to improve the internet connection in the Aceh Tamiang highlands. I hope this remains true, as we desperately need internet access here so we can easily access important information and news from one another.

However, some roads here are in dire straits. In the past few days, rain has been falling nonstop, causing landslides in highland settlements. Many roads have been damaged and collapsed. Even several other evacuation centers have been blocked off from access to aid. I received a photo today from a friend in a different evacuation center, showing that the road to Block B is no longer passable due to landslides and the road is buried under rocks and large boulders.

Even access to the national road is still cut off because several national road bridges have not been evacuated. In the Aceh Tamiang region, it still rains, but not every day. For example, if it rains from noon to evening, this poses a high risk due to the risk of river water rising again into coastal villages.

This is our afternoon breakfast. We, this afternoon, provided it in the public kitchen at the refugee camp in block A, providing cooking together with Selingka residents. But the interesting thing is that we provided food called (Spicy Pecal) because last Sunday there were many residents who together went to the rice fields while they were looking for an internet connection. So, while looking for an internet network, the residents in the refugee camp were looking for food ingredients that could be consumed, such as vegetables.

That's why we provide spicy pecal food like the one in my picture. Pecal is one of the favorite foods of the people of Aceh. Pecal is made from papaya leaves, cabbage, doge, cucumber and tofu and uses various recipes. This spicy pecal is very suitable for eating with white rice. It tastes very delicious and makes our appetite increase.

Approaching New Year's Eve, we were with our friends in the refugee camp, every night sometimes without electricity and network, we always try to save our cell phone batteries here, especially since it's New Year's Eve, we haven't played with our cell phones since this afternoon because we have a plan to save our cell phone batteries tonight so we can turn on the flashlight on our cell phones, we do that not just for one day, but every day so we can see the light without darkness.

Every night, we always find new variations, like playing anything in the evacuation center to entertain ourselves. But unfortunately, on New Year's Eve, we don't have raw corn or cassava to grill. We only have a few snacks left, like instant noodles and fried crackers. Tonight, we can only enjoy whatever we have.

Hopefully, in 2026, we can always be even more enthusiastic. Even though our situation is very concerning and sad, our souls always strive to be enthusiastic. Hopefully, 2026 can be a beautiful year for us. Thank you, 2025, which has given us so much knowledge and obstacles on the path to success.
