Daily Diary day 2: My Routine Feeding the Grasscutters 10 July 2026.

Good day, Steemit family.

Today was another busy but fulfilling day on my small farm. One of my main routines is making sure my grasscutters (cane rats) are well-fed and healthy. These animals are picky eaters , they don’t touch dirty or spoiled feed, so the process from market to cage has to be clean and careful.

Morning Market Run:
Early today, I hopped on a keke (tricycle) and headed to the local market to buy fresh ugwu stems (pumpkin leaves stems). The roads were clear, but as you can see from the view inside the keke, traffic and life were already moving.

The market itself was very lively and crowded, as usual. Women balancing goods on their heads, traders calling out, and everyone hustling under the sun. I navigated through the busy stalls and got a good bundle of fresh ugwu stems.

BACK HOME: WASHING & SORTING.
Once I got home, the real work began. Grasscutters are sensitive , they won’t eat dirty or rotten stems. I had to wash every bunch thoroughly in clean water, remove the bad ones, and sort out only the fresh, healthy parts.

It’s a bit tiring bending down and cleaning everything properly, but it’s necessary for their health.

FEEDING TIME:
After cleaning, it was time to serve their meal! As you can see, they were very happy and excited about the fresh ugwu. They started eating immediately.

These little guys are growing well and their appetite shows they enjoyed today’s treat. Raising grasscutters requires consistency fresh feed, clean environment, and daily care.

That’s my routine for today. Simple but important work that puts food on the table and keeps the farm running.
