The Truth Every Newbie Must Know: Steemit Isn’t What You Think
Welcome to Steemit, Newbie! |
|---|
If you're reading this, congratulations to you!! It means, you have passed through the tussle of registration and successfully joined steemit.
For many newbies, I know it will be exciting for you especially those who were successfully upvoted by some big shots after writing their "introduction post". But after posting a few more times, pouring your heart into it, without getting anything, it becomes a little scary. The idea of giving up, start crippling in. Believe me, I was in the same shoes with you before. But hang in there, is completely normal.
The Hard Truth… and the Beautiful Truth |
|---|
Let me tell you the hard truth, steemit is not a "get rich quick scheme " it is about learning, engaging with people and showing up. You just have to keep posting even if it is only a handful people that sees your post. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day. Every post is one more brick to your "Roman Empire".
You can learn by exploring different communities on steemit, checking out for tags and following up closely with great steemians by engaging with them through comment section. Your presence in steemit will grow faster than your wallet at first. But do not be discouraged because is all part of the grand plan. If you think I'm lying ask @wakeupkitty... Lol🙂🙂
Let me share a little story of my experience |
|---|
When I joined steemit newly, a couple of my friends that registered with me as well, thought that the best strategy to succeed was upvote each other like a cartel. So, whenever we come online, if one of us make a post, we will all gather together to upvote them.
We go under random post, making all manner of generic comments like "lovely post," "beautiful write up", "great work", Guess what, it was all bullshit. We were still getting zero's. To even make matter worse, one by one, we started getting downvoted for what we were doing and for plagiarism. (A.I never existed back then and BOT was our disciplinarian).
A lot of us left the platform out of frustration as a result of the constant zero's in their post. Even me, they were times when I wanted to leave but what kept me was that, they were still people posting every single day. I couldn't just leave my crew like that, so I kept posting. We tried another strategy by tagging top steemians in our post. That almost got us into another round of trouble again. You can't blame us, we were novice without any direction.
Where things started changing |
|---|
Our breakthrough finally started when we stopped chasing shortcuts. Each of us started taking time to learn about the platform, observed how those top guys wrote, how they tagged their post and engaged in the community. We taught ourselves something new in the group every evening.
Gradually, things started changing.
I still remember when a guy told me in the comment section that my post has inspired him.. look at me trying to motivate myself and someone is here saying my post has inspired him. I actually felt happy about it.
Then came the big moments, when I first got my big votes from top whales like @anomadsoul and @surpassinggoogle. I felt really proud of myself and to top it all, that year happened to be the year steem and SBD rose so high that 1 steem dollar was worth $13 - $14. All of us that remained were glad, we never left.
So, during this first week or maybe your first month, just think of steemit like planting a seed. Water them with a lot of good post , give them sunlight with your engagement because that is what will keep you afloat in this challenging times and be patient. With time, that seed will grow and when It finally sprouts, the rewards and everything else will follow.

I agree with @michelangelo3 we never received fat upvotes for being a newbie. I have seen and see the worst posts receiving the biggest upvotes, AI written text included.
A small group will get rich uf they find the way amd know the right people even if they only post once per month, never comment or reply.
It's like @weisser-rabe says not different fromthe real world.
How much future one will have by being here or the platform itself depends on the own attitude and the never ending farming. The pool of rewards candry up and the last ones who will feel that in their walkets are for sure not those receiving fat rewards.
But hey, it can be that the rewards received in dollars, euro or different valuta given to others just by meeting through commenting is 50x higher than the upvotes you will ever receive.
What I learnt is that it's impossible to fight greed. (the more you have the more you want) and if you don't get on your knees and kiss feet you will never receive a big upvote.
Freedom has a price tag
You wrote something good, but I doubt it will be read and if not believed.
🍀♥️
A motivating post in times when many people (at least in my circle) have lost their motivation. And to be honest, I also have my doubts as to whether this platform still has a future.
Nevertheless, I feel that it is much easier for new users to get attention today than it was seven years ago when I first joined.
And yes, as you so aptly describe, there's no quick money to be made here; you have to bring a little patience and enthusiasm to the table. It's a game...
I truly understand where you're coming from because I'm also in the same shoes. I just try to push myself to make sure I post.
Many years ago, when a lot of steemians moved from steemit to hive. A lot of us thought it won't make it but here we are...still strong. I believe you have also seen worse but chose to remain because you believe in it.
So, let's just keep our fingers crossed and hope this phase too shall pass and the platform will be very lively like it use to be
Actually, it's like in real life: there are no guarantees. But Steem is a great opportunity. How it develops for each individual will become clear over time: even if things go badly, something good can come of it...
