"No one should be immortal, if even one person has to die"

Time is now the currency
We earn it and spend it
The rich can live forever
And the rest of us?

Dear Steemians,

a new conference in Vienna is taking roots, called Darwin's Circle. Immediately, I was reminded of the scene in In Time, when Justin Timberlake aka Will Salas and Amanda Seyfried as Sylvia Weis are cracking the password to get the One Million. Of course New Economy and digitalization have not always brought advantages for us and talking of a selection is not far-fetched. What kind of disadvantages do you experience and which problems are you expecting in future? What are you doing against it to nevertheless preserve a bright future?

I didn't see the movie, I was short on time. I'd like to hear the answers to your own questions. My question is who wants to be immortal and why? Also, after you crack the code or the password and get your million what will you do with your earned or stolen time?

Thanks for your comment, I can recommend the movie, there are several overlays that can be discussed from different perspectives. At first I have to admit that the time has already been stolen and arranged within a crazy system where "the rich live forever and poor have to die (for them?)" Anyway, the two protagonists Sylvia and Will are against this system and I would say they kind of reach immortality (but of different kind the movie suggests from the beginning on), they fight for a more equitable society. This shakeup makes them special and memorable. I entailed this idea of Darwinian capitalism of the movie, time as currency and unequal distribution into aspects of New Economy, cause many opinion leaders nowadays "predict" a dismantling of middle class through digitalization. To open up an answer in short to your questons I'd like to keep the look at e.g. Bitcoin: it is enough there for every human being on this planet, isn't it? Enough to live a life that is so normal we're not even recogizing how normal it is, this could lead to a whole discussion of basic income, why and for whom?...

When a scientist e.g. got immortalized by his discoveries or reinterpretations, it has a real impact on the proceeding not only of societies but also mankind. Where could we have been today, if we had not lost so much knowledge that had been destroyed during wars and conversions to the "right religion"?

I guess I would have to see the movie. I believe there is enough for everyone to live a dignified healthy existence. It's just that a few insane minds never think they have enough. Yes opening up discussions is one way to enlighten and educate minds. There is no reason for lives to be sacrificed so rich men can live forever, that is a Luciferean myth that ignorance keeps feeding... Thank you for sharing @sciencevienna

Thanks for your comment :) and the video, sometimes it is better not to have seen the movie to have a different perspective on a topic. However the video in my opinion could be more grounded and differentiated in selection of facts, he has choosen. Using fragments by means of appearing catchy or constructing a black and white dualism, let him appear in kind of "conspiracistic" lights.

That is not how I hear him but I suppose you could make a case for your argument.
