Erdogan vows to completely clear Sinjar region of Iraq
BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:00 P.M.) - During today's press conference, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed to completely eliminate the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) from the Sinjar and Mount Qandil regions of Iraq.
"Our goal is to completely clear Sinjar and Mount Qandil in Iraq of the separatist terrorists of the PKK," Erdogan said.
The Turkish military has been actively targeting the northern part of Iraq in an effort to clear the PKK forces from this rugged region.
The PKK is an outlawed organization that was involved in a brutal war with the Turkish Armed Forces for several years in the 1980s and 1990s.
In addition to their operations in Iraq, the Turkish military is currently involved in the Syrian Conflict.
The Turkish regime has actively supported the rebel groups in northern Syria for several years now; they have given them weapons and logistical information in order to overthrown the Syrian government.
