Kremlin involvement in France’s Yellow Vest protests ‘pure slander’ – Peskov
Press Secretary for the President of Russia Dmitri Peskov slammed claims that the Kremlin was in any way involved in the Yellow Vest protests that have rocked Paris in recent days, calling them “pure slander” during a telephone interview in Moscow on Monday.
“We did not meddle and do not intend to meddle in the internal affairs of any country, including France,” he said, adding “any claims about Russia’s alleged involvement are pure slander.”
Peskov’s comment comes after an interview on Sunday by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian with RTL in which he claimed that France’s Secretariat-General for National Defence and Security had launched a probe into possible Russian influence on the Yellow Vest protests, which have been gripping the country since November 17.
Le Drian’s claimed that hundreds of Russia-linked Twitter accounts began using the #giletsjaunes hashtag, which is the French name for "Yellow Vests," in a bid to stoke the protests in France.
