Oh my gosh what a big baby!
Newborn babies that weigh in over 6kgs alway seem to make headlines. I read this bit of scintillating news the other day feeling gobsmacked reacting like any other person would. I felt for the poor mum, she must have been very uncomfortable carrying this baby in the third trimester.
The article reported that the mother and her husband were surprised at the baby's size. But, their second baby weighed in at over 5kgs so obviously they expected another big baby. But definitely not this big! Who would?
Like any newborn babe, she is gorgeous with a birth weight at 6.6kgs.
Why so big you may ask? Well it seems that the mum's gestational diabetes was the reason for the size of both babies at birth. It certainly reinforces the medical world's big concerns for the health of the mums and their babies with gestational diabetes. One of the many good reasons why expectant mums need constant doctor/midwife checks and blood tests during the 9 months. I believe that medication is given when the sugar level in expectant mums reach a certain level.
The interesting fact that I learned from reading this article was that 1.2 percent of babies born weigh over 5 kgs.
I hope that the baby and the mum are doing well and are both healthy.
