I believe the violence will turn people to vote for the other guys in those communities. The intended result of these protests is going to backfire and go the other way. Think about it: If you lived there and your area was getting wrecked because your leadership didn't do anything to stop them, wouldn't you feel inclined to get a different kind of leadership?
