RE: Dan Dicks Responds To The FACEBOOK PURGE - Internet Bill Of Rights Is NOT What We Need!

in #news6 years ago

While I agree with your position that boycotting these platforms is a good thing, however, by boycotting these platforms for banning people that they do not want participating is playing into their hands.

Facebook / Google / Twitter each have a motivational interest in doing what they can to influence this upcoming US midterm elections. They are where the bulk of users are hanging out. As much as it is a good reprieve to participate on forums like Steem, minds, gab, etc... This is not where the battlefield is.

We are in an information war; the battlegrounds are these massive platforms. Where they are trying to implement the censorship. By boycotting and just leaving those platforms, we are allowing them to be taken in by the owners and manipulated to their benefit without any opposing voices.

You don't win a war with retreat.

It's their platform, their servers, their service, they should be able to do whatever they want to. In publishing elsewhere Facebook loses, not us. People can still share stuff there, even if they have to do it in 1337 if they block ban links because it's for another platform, eventually they will become obsolete.

Let's accept that premise (I strongly disagree for several reasons); that leaves 10's -100's of millions of people who are kept in those informational ghettos.

Those running the ghettos want to keep the people in them within them, and to do that they need to sequester them and keep them in their little echo chambers. This is an information war. These platforms are the war zone.

We never would have won WW2 if we said "well, Germany is nazi territory, we should just let them do what they want with it." FUCK NO!!! We sent people in to take it back over whatever the costs, and MILLIONS paid with their lives.

We are lucky, we get to engage in this war without the need for the blood and bullets, we get to launch memes and counter narratives with facts.

They aren't "kept". They have a choice.

If Facebook demands you make a video of you spinning on one leg reciting their TOS before you use their service, it's your choice to abide and they aren't forcing you.

The false analogy of "we wouldn't have won ww2" doesn't have a premise. If you want to win this "war" you must pick your battles, and going in their territory to "free people from the ghetto" is done by spreading the word of other alternatives through leet speak.

Yes, was given a choice : here's a platform where you are free to post about yourself, and share and find and meet lost friends and family...

Once the userbase is around a billion (probably counts bots), and the platform is pervasive, they are now acting like your phone company. A utility to connect people.

Also, people have built the value of the platform...

So, it's like if you helped build the telephone grid, then, once established they decide "ok, you are ONLY allowed to talk about the weather, or we will remove you from the platform you helped build."

BEST CASE, we are looking at monopoly practices that saw microsoft split up as a company.

Oh, and as a bonus, they get government money, which makes it government sanctioned censorship.

BTW - the analogy to WW2 does have a premise : That if our parents / grandparents (not sure your age) had had the attitude of cowardice that you are expressing, we would all be giving nazi salutes.

First off, it doesn't matter how much you post to it, you don't own the servers or service so you don't get to dictate how it's run or why.

Having phone service doesn't mean you helped build the grid any more than buying vegetables at the store mean you have a stake in the farm or supermarket.

Microsoft still holds a monopoly on software publishing platform.

If they receive founding from the government then it's one hand washes the other because then the government can dictate what you must do if you wish to continue having founding, and government has censored books and newspapers and articles for ever, doesn't make it right OR wrong, since if you want to publish there's always alternatives, unless we're talking about the monopoly Amazon holds over publishing.

BTW, the Germans were not defeated any blows by Americans that put them in any disadvantage, it was the Russians, by their fucking selves, who stopped the Germans and were about to wipe the earth of them if they had it their way. The VAST majority of people, in America, DIDN'T WANT ANY PART OF THE WAR. If it wasn't for the pearl harbor massacre that was perpetrated by your own governments nefariousness, like louisitania in ww1, 95% of the people would have watched the english saluting hitler without any qualms. If you think what i suggested had any inkling of cowardice I can asuer you that you haven't the slightest idea of what a tactic of retreat means nor do you understand what fighting a battle means, and in terms of information war, you have yet to express any kind of tactic besides "don't leave Facebook", whatever that means.

I'm not talking about ownership. I'm talking about treating this like a war.

Like it or not, WW4 is going on and it is for the hearts and minds of the people of the planet.

So, we can act like the jews and hope for escape, we can act like the french and give in, or we can act like the russians and show these fuckers who really runs the show.

I think you skipped a world war, and it's quite odd how you skipped the tune from an offensive war that bore no fruits (the Allies) to a defensive war fought by the ruthless military that forced it's people to fight with one empty rifle in one soldier's hand and a rife-less soldier with a handful of rounds. In other words, from the Art Of War, the Germans were engaged with an adversary who had Nothing To Lose, and the fearlessness of the desperate man has no mirror in "information war" or such banal euphemisms for battling.

Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across

Don't push too hard on desperate enemies.

"Who runs the show". Certainly not you or such nonsense of "show em who really runs the show."

Publish information where it's not prone to be wiped out without a trace making all that effort meaningless, and if you want to go into the "ghettos" really remember who runs the ghetto and hide your message in plain sight, either through sarcasm and satire alike or outright through leet or code.

Nah, you just missed the reference...

Actually, you seem to have missed or misunderstood EVERY reference, to a degree where I would guess it was intentional.

Have a good day.
