Can Steemit help "fix" the problem of economics? [dTube]

in #news7 years ago

I had a super interesting conversation with economist/professor Steven Payson about the shortcomings of what's being taught in economics classes currently. His critique was only partially political but heavily based on some of the paradigms that have developed in the world of economics academia.

As I was doing the interview, I couldn't help by wonder whether there are ways in which the Steem blockchain and its associated platforms, whether it's @utopian-io or others might be able to improve the way in which economics is taught and research...maybe too ambitious? What do people think?

Steem can be a useful topic in comparing our current economics with something more decentralized, less emotional mistakes and more basic building blocks.

I think our platform, especially, can offer the world of economics a great deal of fresh air. Being woven through a social media form, our site really offers a new paradigm in this world. Thus, I think that economists all over the world would gain from studying our site.

Thanks for sharing and giving us the opportunity to share on the matter.

Namaste :)

Steemit, in my opinion, allows the monetization of one's social media presence. And the good part is this monetization completely within the control of the user. So instead of being but a serf on fiefdoms of the likes of Facebook or Twitter, you earn from your own effort.

I agree wholeheartedly, it really is an innovative technology that allows us to circulate our content to a wider audience and no need to get a "government copyright" which gives ownership away. All the information can be traced back to it's original post...

Hi

" I couldn't help by wonder whether there are ways in which the Steem blockchain and its associated platforms, whether it's @utopian-io or others might be able to improve the way in which economics is taught and research"

I couldnt ignore this part because i also sat down and thought about that.
I must say the feeling is mutual.
Have been doing some research lately but havent got a satisfied results.

Nice article.

As someone who has taken economics on both graduate and undergraduate levels I totally agree with you guys. The information is outdated that they teach and not very relevant to today's markets. There's much more to economics that bell curves and trying to quantify everything.

This is a really interesting proposal... I think Steem, and other cryptocurrencies, could be a great source of information. Especially in the future. In my opinion: one of the reasons cryptocurrency is so successful is because we are the generation of instantaneous gratification. The stock market is too slow for our taste and it runs our patience. At least it does mine lol. Cryptocurrency is going to be the future, and I think that it is something that needs to be addressed in Economics courses. Good stuff!

Whatever we may try, we are all bound by the pareto principle. It's not just an economic law, it's a law of nature. Any attempts at eradicating it is foolishness.

Totally agree with you @cryptoctopus

we have to take into account that this is relatively new, many people do not trust this type of websites and people like us are to give it credibility. steemit is not only a sutio of information but it rewards its users. this became a new digital age.

I think that the growth in the community allows for it to get into diverse space.
Quite recently, a relation has been found to how crytocurrencies help fight climate change. This simply shows how we can always break new ground on any area we choose on steemit.
The advantage of crytocurrencies is that lack of control (political control) and that is a strong advantage we have here on steemit.
The absence of these control here allows for more objectivity and people can always teach stuff.
Those who even want to appear anonymous can easily send in their lessons through an economic broadcast account.

Let's say @trueeconomics 😁

But we'll do better with objectivity, facts and truth right here on steemit.
