New Books Tuesday: June 12

in #news6 years ago

Many people know that Wednesday is New Comics day. Somewhat less known is the fact that Tuesday, in the US, is New Books day.

Weekly disclaimer: This weekly post highlights some of the books being published on any given week, usually in the science fiction and fantasy genres, both YA and books for adults. I am VERY likely to miss cool new books, so please feel free to tell me about them in the comments. Sometimes these will be books I've read a pre-publishing copy of, but most of the time, they will not. These are books I find notable, but I certainly don't read fast enough in English to be able to read all the cool books that come out every week.

Book 2 of June has a bunch of intriguing books coming out, but for there's one huge hightlight, which just so happens to be one of the best books of 2018, and the end of one of the best series. Let's get into it!

Revenant Gun by Yoon Ha Lee

The third and final book in the Machineries of Empire is here, and people who've been upset with me for reading it last year can all catch up. This is a tremendous series. Super smart, absolutely bonkers, with layers upon layers upon layers. It is space opera at its very best.

Starless by Jacqueline Carey

The author of the classic Kushiel series is back with a brand new epic fantasy series, which is certainly exciting news!

We Are Where the Nightmares Go and Other Stories by C. Robert Cargill

A horror story collection from a well regarded author whose work is too scary for me.

Low Chicago: A Wild Cards Novel edited by George R.R. Martin

GRRM's extremely long running shared universe anthology series is back with a new volume, with a delightful group of authors including Paul Cornel, Saladin Ahmed, and Mary Anne Mohanraj.

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir

This is the third book in Tahir's super popular YA series, Ember Quartet, and some of you aren't reading this anymore because you've gone off to buy it.

Close Your Eyes by Paul Jessup

This is weird SF space opera. Which, considering that space opera can already get pretty weird, is probably really super hella weird. The cover creeps me out.

SuperMoon by H. A. Swain

It's a moon colony book, not a book about a cape wearing moon that fights crime. Sadly. The reviews for this one seem mostly disappointed.

Hybrid Child by Mariko Ōhara, translated by Jodie Beck

This is the English language debut of Ōhara's award winning 1991 novel, which is considered a classic of Japanese sff. This is a book of AI and cyborgs that seems super intriguing.

What are you looking forward to reading?
