Thousands Of Veterans Arrive In Solidarity To The Standing Rock Protest

in #news8 years ago

Thousands of veterans arrived this week to help those at Standing Rock protest over the Dakota pipeline. It is estimated that at least 2000 veterans came to join them in solidarity.

The veterans were also allegedly led by Wesley Clark Jr.

The protest over the Dakota pipeline has already been going on for months and isn’t cooling down anytime soon. And the situation is said by many to have gotten increasingly worse and violent, with many of the protestors allegedly being attacked by agents of the state. The governor in North Dakota has already issued an emergency evacuation order, demanding that the protestors leave. But the supporters aren’t going to be gotten rid of that easily.

The veterans joining the cause claim, via a GoFundMe account that was established to raise funds for them, that their intentions are peaceful and that they plan to assemble an unarmed militia at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation.

Donations to them have already surpassed $1 million, coming from just 24,000+ donors.

Those involved with the standoff reiterate the notion that violence isn’t going to end violence, only peace will end violence. And many proctors see the veterans as providing a sort of shield, which will stand between them and the state. They say that their mission this time is not one of war, it’s one of peace.

Tribal elders have also allegedly asked the military veterans not to engage in any conflict with the state; they hope to resolve this in a peaceful manner. An open letter was also written to the veterans taking part, thanking them for their dedication to the principles of justice.
