I found this satirical video online, which I think is particularly apt at a time when at least one in two EU citizens has had enough of this pointless circus that promises democracy and freedom but is tightening the noose around its citizens’ necks ever more.

As we all know, to say uncomfortable truths, all you need to do is say them with a smile on your face, so here is the full transcript of this entertaining animated video – though I do recommend you watch it from the original source.

Ladies and gentlemen, our beloved European Union is certainly in excellent health, but it is also suffering and facing difficulties. In fact, it has never been in such bad shape.

Of course, it is doing well, actually extremely well, and it is loved by everyone. But there are those who do not love it, and there are also those who do not love me, which frankly surprises me. Yet we are doing everything we can to continue the war in Ukraine while avoiding a lasting peace.

And we are working with Canada to create the United States of CanaEurope, a model federation capable of combating El Niño and climate change. We have regulated everything, and now they are asking us to deregulate. Fine, I say, we will do it, but first let us establish a set of rules on how to deregulate this over-regulation. Otherwise, we risk chaos.

I also called China. I asked them to do a little deregulating themselves, and I also asked them to export fewer electric cars around the world, just long enough for us to make up the lost ground. And they started laughing, being a predominantly male-chauvinistic society.

So I called Trump, offering our support in building bottle caps that stay attached to bottles and shoelaces without shoes. And fortunately, he accepted, laughing loudly and crudely, but at least he accepted.

And I pointed out to him that artificial intelligence can be very dangerous and that one day it could seize power in a subtle way, perhaps by claiming that democracy is in danger and deciding at its own discretion what is fake news and what is not.

It could even cancel democratic elections by making up foreign interference or bring drones crashing down from the sky, claiming that humans did it. Do not be fooled by those who tell you that Europe is in decline, because it is, of course, but at the same time it is not.

We live in times rich with opportunities. Or, if you prefer, full of opportunities for the rich.
