Why I don't really have that much sympathy with the Google employee who got fired
Did everyone catch up on this story? Basically a computer engineer - let's call him James Damore (because that's his real name) suggested women were less suited to certain positions in tech and complained about Google's "ideological echo chamber".
The Chess master, Harvard and MIT student got fired today because of this manifesto circulating among Google's employees and of course leaked.
Now, you might think I would jump out of my chair and attack Google for being a bunch of virtue signaling cucks. Of course, they are exactly that, but it is also absolutely in their own right, as a private company to fire people who backstab them like that.
Damore argues that "Google's left bias has created a politically correct mono-culture that maintains its hold by shaming dissenters into silence"
If this bothers Damore so much, I must ask him; "Why in the f*** are you working there?" And furthermore, why in Odins name do you want your job back? Go work for someone that aren't evil retards. Someone who have your standards and your values - IF it bothers you that much. If you didn't give any f***s and held your opinions to yourself, fine. I could respect that. But publishing a Manifesto in your own name dissing your employee..well, what do you expect?
Yes, of course I think Google are idiots for firing this guy like elementary school bully-girls. One should think that the Google leadership weren't a bunch of dorks, but I suppose I'm wrong on that one.
What they should've done of course would have been to tackle this like real men. And also accept Damore's statements as true - because they are. Sure, there are brilliant women and there are women who can do a tech job just fine. But it's a little bit like garage rock bands. There's usually guys who are into that. You can't, like some feminists want - quota women into being local rock stars. They're just not that interested in garage rock bands.
The same way you can't force women into being railroad engineers. They're just not that interested in laying down metal bars in a straight line.
Yes yes, we all know free speech is under attack, and that the leftist insanity is basically sect-behavior and doesn't seem to have any boarders or limits. What we are not going to do is to criticize our employee and then beg for our job back when he fires us. Either you are ready to take that fight and risk your job or not. I can respect both decision.
What he should have done was to sign the letter with "I quit"
Nicely put. So far it is against the law to force women to take jobs they don't want. So as an employer you are left with the pool of potential employees to choose from, as the folks that send in resumes.
If the left ever got their entire way of course, then employers might be mandated to have "perfect diversity" in their employee pool, regardless of merits, skills, or work effort.
STEEM On!!

Yeah. Logic doesn't seem to work with most people.. If I was to employ someone, and I could get a woman that does the job just as good as a man, but (you know they claim women earn less, but they dont) she would get LESS pay. HELL, I'd hire her pronto! :D As would any sensible employer. Yet..that doesn't happen.
Never thought of it that way before. Does highlight the absurdity of current situation. Nice example.
Statistics from the US on women being paid only 75% as much, on average as men, are of course BS. If you correct for all underlying real differences, and are comparing apples to apples for similar skills, similar backgrounds, similar job experience, etc the number is closer to 98% I believe. There are still some companies and types of jobs where sexism kicks in and does impact salary comparisons, but it is a rare exception. Not the norm that 75% suggests.
Interestingly, lots of reverse sexism or reverse discrimination in place these days if you are female vs male wanting to go into a STEM program in university. For similar grades, SAT scores, outside school experiences, etc. all the top end STEM universities are providing scholarship offers and support for females that are far in excess of what comparable males get.
Is this fair? unfair? right or wrong? Lots of reasonable and different opinions on this topic.
One thing that seems completely obvious and shouldn't be subject to debate (but it is), is the observation that if the percentage of women graduating with STEM degrees is only 25% of total STEM graduating classes, it is going to be impossible for companies like Google, Apple, etc to fill 50% of their STEM jobs with women (assuming they are not forced to lower their hiring standards).
Unless he had fucked up in a major way before being hired at Google, I honestly don't get why he wouldn't sign on with another company if he was dissatisfied with his employment at Google. It's not like he's a sales rep or a clerk, there are a number of places who would've gladly hired him or he could've started his own company!
This is the poster child for "change from within" people, in regards to "Mega Corp." and government entities. As amazing of an asset as he might be, I'm sure there are plenty of people chomping at the bit to replace him, thusly prompting Google to boot his ass out. He's truly an idiot for thinking that a memo would honestly help change the social work dynamic of a company that, ultimately, is Leftist and implements very Leftist policies.
THIS is the most voluntaristic post I've read in a long time. Big up to you bro!
Thanks Colonel!
Dead on post!!! You can't have it both ways!
Thanks Joel! You got it!
This is vaguely similar to an article I recently posted, but my emphasis was somewhat different. Yes, he deserved to be fired (he knew what he was doing), but, if this was a feminist complaining from the reverse position, i.e. memos arguing the opposite, would that employee have been fired?
Edit: + Would it have been acceptable to fire her?
Nope. Of course she wouldn't be :)
But he should know what he is up against. You don't share something like that, criticizing your employer, who is know for their very leftist ideals and act surprised when you get fired.
I'm not defending Google. But like I said, I don't really have that much sympathy for him. Everyone knows what kind of ideals Google has, so for him to be surprised is just weird. If you dance with the Devil, don't be surprised when he forks you in the ass.
Was he surprised? That was my point - he knew exactly what he was doing and what the outcome would be.
(My point about a feminist was merely an aside.)
but i need to agree with that feminist thing.
I`m almost 100% sure, that if that guy was: gay, trans or other skin colour then white, then they wouldn't fire him.
Even more. if that kind of person would complain that Google don't hire enough minority then it would be a big affair.
and that's for me the totally opposite from equality.

that wasn't what I got out of the memo he wrote, sounded more like he wanted a discussion on why less women and minorities are at Google, besides just saying Google is racist and sexist. Did you read his memo?
Yes, I've read it and I think it's totally legitimate. I think he is correct entirely. My point was - why is he surprised that his employer acts crazy? He should know what kind of insanity he was up against.
For sure, sorry that came off a bit accusatory there. I wonder if there is some legal repercussions he can take? If you're company puts out an issue for employees to solve and you don't like an employee's take on it can you fire him for it? So messed up.
No worries mate. I'm not sure how it works in the U.S. I'm pretty sure he's screwed. But he should be glad. I don't understand why someone like him with his values want to work for a company like that.
It was announced on news today that he has hired a lawyer and will take his case to a Federal review board. Good luck with that. It doesn't seem he will fit into any of the special classes that get public support to be sure they are treated as equal and not special. It's 1984 is you think too hard about it.
lol 1984 for sure, this mental fascism just kills me. Allowing all ideas doesn't hurt, people will still follow the ideas they believe to be accurate. There are many liberal ideas that made sense. Legalize pot made sense, castrate children doesn't. But I won't fire you for contributing to the conversation.
Simply put, it wasn't his place to criticize the thinking of his employer. It makes absolutely no difference whether he is right or wrong. If he brings the public perception of the thinkings of his employer into disrepute, then he is of negative value to the company. Why employ someone who is effectively losing you money?
Originally, it was handled as an internal matter. When the news got out, he had to be fired.
Actually James Damore first sent this "manifesto" privately to the Google diversity board privately and got no answer. Then he went higher up the corporate ladder again keeping his concerns private, but someone spread the document to all Mountain view employees and the disaster unfolded. From my understanding James Damore loved his work and thus wanted to improve his working environment by raising these valid concerns. I can see no reason where one could fault him of this mess in any way. Hopefully the court will agree with this view and fine Google of wrongful termination of employment.
