War is a racket and is part of the American economy. In essence, the American economy is a war economy. The media sells it to the public by keeping them constantly afraid while real reporting is non-existent. Most of the information is obfuscated, or flat out false. I can't stress that people read the very short book "War is a Racket" by Smedley Butler. I will leave a link here for people who haven't read it to do so.
