I´m going VEGAN (almost) -- DAY 4 & 5 -- (A Steemit experiment)

in #norway7 years ago (edited)

Hi all!

I´m having some very busy days, so I´ll just do a very quick recap of the last two days.

So, in my last post I said I was going to a birthday party and I didnt know whether to bring my own food or tell the host in advance that I dont eat meat and expect them to make vegan/vegeterian food for me etc.

I ended up NOT telling them in advance and NOT bringing my own food (didnt have any time to prepare).
I was really hungry when I got there and was hoping there would be something I could eat.
Luckily for me it was tacos and I just skipped the meat and loaded the taco with loads of fresh veggies, guacamole and salsa!
I also had a very small portion of cheese and an just a little sour cream on top.. :)

So that went super fine. I also got to talk about my experiment with people there and all of them were very supportive.

Oh, and I managed to stay away from the cakes and sweets!
Yeah, bonus point!

Also, yesterday I got to check out a vegan place in Oslo:

I got the feeling from their menu that there was tofu in almost everything there, and I have a bit of a hard time enjoying tofu, so I ended up with a vegan burger.. AGAIN! Haha. That´s too many burgers for lunch in one week...!
I was a bit disappointed with the place. I was hoping for lots of fresh stuff, but most of the stuff on the menu was fried.

SO, HOW DO I FEEL AFTER 5 DAYS?:

On day 4 I actually went around feeling super dizzy all day. Especially in the afternoon.
Today I´ve noticed that I get hungry faster than I usually do.
I guess I might try to be more consistent on when I´m eating and try to not let it go too long in between my meals.
Maybe do some nuts, fruits or veggies in between meals to keep the energy levels up?

Anyone have any thoughts or tips on this??

After 5 days trying to be a vegan I´m leaning towards settling for going vegetarian.
It´s hard to find good vegan options sometimes, especially the days I dont have much time to plan or I´m on the road driving between cities/meetings.

We´ll see.. 2 more days now I´ll still try to be vegan (almost) and then I´ll make a decision for which direction I´ll head in for the next couple of months.

Hello there. I too am making some serious changes in my diet. Maybe I'll start posting about it.

I find snacking on trail mix throughout the day really helps keep me going. Especially at my dayjob which involves some manual labor.

You mention settling for vegetarian rather than going vegan. My opinion on this has never changed. I don't believe the health benefits between being vegan or vegetarian is enough to be vegan. I think if you go Vegetarian and just avoid dairy and go light on the fish, you will experience great health benefits. Vegetarian is a broad term, though. It's not as black and white as being Vegan.

Heck, I'll never be even 100% vegetarian. I will always whole eat eggs when I can get them from a real farmer, and even meat and dairy a few times a month. I still love that food, but am going vegetarian because I know Meat and Dairy is directly and unarguably correlated to cancer and disease in humans.

I'll follow your blog, and chime in once in a while. Good luck and good health :)

Hi @brandocrypto! Thanks a lot for your comment!

Yeah, I think long term for me I will probably eat some fish, eggs and even some meat every now and then.
Now in the beginning though I wanted to explore a bit and try to be without any meat or fish all together for a good while.
But I´ve found these first 5 days a bit hard when it comes to planning and going 100% vegan. I think it will make more sense for me, in the life situation I´m in now to go vegetarian. We´ll see what the future brings :)

BTW, what is trail mix?

"Trail Mix" in Canada and the U.S.A. is usually referring to a mix of raw snack foods..something you could take with you anywhere.

The trail mix I eat consists of a mixture of nuts, dried fruit and seeds.

A mixture of: Peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, raisins, dried papaya, dried pineapple, banana chips, dried apple slices, dried apricots,

It is very healthy and a great hearty snack for us trying to avoid processed foods. Just keep in mind that if you are also trying to lose weight....the nuts and seeds can be VERY CALORIE DENSE due to the fat content. (Healthy fat, but still a lot of calories)

If you make a nice balanced mix, you should have a good balance of fat, protein and carbohydrates. It may take some playing around with to find a mix you like, but you can probably buy some decent premade ones at the grocery store or bulk food store.

Ah, yeah. We got those kinds here as well.
