Today me, my family and some friends decided to pay a visit to the annual event held just 15 km from where we live. The annual Viking Marknad (Viking Market) located in the island of Herdla, right outside the island of Askøy.
It was beautiful weather, both the adults the kids had a really good time! Its nice to get out doing something together in nature instead of all these indoor activites which we have more than enough of.
Most of the visitors were dressed as vikings and were camping in the area for the whole weekend with their families and friends.
Glima
Glima (Icelandic: wrestling) is a Nordic form of fracture that originates from the Viking Age. Glimawrestlers wear a glitter, a double belt of leather that goes around each thigh and around the waist. With the right hand, you determine the opponent's life belt, and with the left hand about the opponent's right thigh belt. A breaker loses if he touches the substrate with any part of the body between the armpits and the knees.
This was fun to watch, it would have been fun to do as well, but my asthma combined with the stamina of a nerd, i would not have survived long. I had a good friend which joined in on the glima, check out his profile @healthpac.

It reminds me of Skyrim! So of course all I could think about when I was looking at those pictures was sneaking around looting everything until I was over-encumbered. 😅😅

We hosted Chris with his Glima tournament at our festival last year, worked really well with our Norse/Pagan style. Great to see him still traveling around doing Glima at events!
