A day in the life : Day 417
I gave in to another trend this week — the idea of doing a short evening walk after dinner. It’s all over social media right now, with people claiming it helps digestion, sleep, and even mood. I wasn’t convinced, but after a long day of sitting around, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try.
The first evening was awkward. I felt restless, checking the time every few minutes, wondering if I looked strange just walking with no real destination. By the second day, it felt more natural. I stopped thinking about steps or benefits and just walked. No phone, no music, just the street noise and the breeze.
What I didn’t expect was how it helped with a work issue that had been bothering me all week. I’d been stuck on a decision, going back and forth without clarity. Somewhere during that walk, the answer came easily. Not because I forced it — but because I wasn’t forcing anything at all.
The weather has been cooling slightly in the evenings, which made it easier to step out. I’ve also been eating lighter dinners lately, mostly because heavy food doesn’t feel right anymore. That combination — light meals and a short walk — made sleep come faster than usual.
I won’t pretend I’ll do this every single day. Some evenings are meant for rest, not routines. But I get why this trend is catching on. It’s simple, low effort, and doesn’t demand perfection.
Sometimes the best habits aren’t the ones that promise big results. They’re the ones that quietly make your days feel a little more balanced, without asking too much in return.
