A day in the life : Day 628

I came across an interesting story today about people collecting old computers again. At a time when AI companies are building increasingly powerful machines, some enthusiasts are going in the opposite direction and restoring computers from decades ago. There is something practical about that. Old machines were simple enough that you could actually understand what was inside them.

That made me think about how quickly technology becomes old. Something that was considered impressive twenty or thirty years ago can now sit in someone's cupboard, waiting for a hobbyist to bring it back to life.

My own problem today was much less interesting. I had planned to finish a few things in the morning, but I kept moving between tasks. By afternoon I had touched five different things and completed almost none of them. Eventually I picked one and stayed with it until it was finished. It was a good reminder that sometimes the problem is simply having too many things open at once.

The monsoon weather has been fairly comfortable here. There is enough rain around to keep the air cooler, although getting around can become annoying when the roads get wet. I also ended up eating simpler food today. Rice, vegetables and something warm seemed more appealing than anything heavy.

AI news continues to move quickly too. There is growing attention on the physical side of AI, especially data centres, memory and computing infrastructure. A technology event in Taiwan is even expanding its focus around these areas as companies prepare for AI deployment at a much larger scale.

It was a fairly ordinary day for me. A little work, some news, some food, and too much time thinking about things that could have waited until tomorrow. I am leaving those thoughts there for tonight.
