A day in the life : Day 660

I started the day reading about the growing interest in AI-powered search. More people are now using AI assistants to research a topic, compare options and get a quick summary instead of opening several search results. I still like checking the original information myself, but I can see why the faster approach is becoming popular. Search is slowly turning into more of a conversation.

Another trend I noticed is that companies are paying more attention to smaller AI models. Running a smaller model can cost less and can sometimes be faster, especially for simple tasks. It seems like the next stage may involve using different models for different jobs instead of sending everything to the biggest one available.

My own problem today involved a grocery delivery. One item was missing from the order, but I did not notice until I had already put everything away. I checked the bags twice because I was convinced I had simply misplaced it. Eventually I checked the order again and confirmed that it really had not been included.

Customer support sorted it out fairly quickly. Still, I found myself spending more time looking for the missing item than it would have taken to replace it myself.

The weather was fairly comfortable today. There were clouds in the morning and some sunshine later. The monsoon seems to be winding down gradually. I kept lunch simple and had a fairly early dinner.

I also spent some time cleaning up my browser tabs. I had accumulated an impressive collection of pages that I had promised myself I would read later. Most of them were several weeks old. I closed almost all of them.

It felt good to start with an empty browser window.

The day was simple enough. A missing grocery item, fewer browser tabs and some interesting thoughts about where search and AI are heading.

I think I will leave the internet alone for tonight and get some sleep.
