A day in the life : Day 663

I saw an interesting story today about the growing use of AI in banking and finance. Banks are experimenting with AI for customer service, fraud detection and analysing large amounts of financial information. What caught my attention was how quickly this has moved from experiments to practical use. Financial systems have always been full of repetitive work, so there are plenty of places where automation can actually save time.

There is also more discussion about AI agents handling transactions. That sounds useful for simple payments, but I still think having clear limits matters. I would be comfortable letting an assistant handle a small routine payment. Giving it unrestricted access to everything would be a different matter.

My own problem today was much less impressive. I had planned to clean one particular drawer and found a collection of old receipts, batteries, cables and random bits of paper. I started sorting them and discovered that some batteries had leaked slightly.

That turned a five-minute cleaning job into a much longer one.

I cleaned everything properly and threw away the things that were no longer useful. At least the drawer is finally usable again.

The weather was fairly warm today, with clouds appearing during the afternoon. There was a little rain later, but nothing heavy. The monsoon seems to be slowly moving away. I kept lunch simple and had a lighter dinner because I did not feel particularly hungry.

I also spent some time looking at the week ahead. I have a few things that need attention, but nothing that requires a complicated plan. I wrote down the important ones and left the rest alone.

The evening was quiet. The drawer is clean, the old batteries are gone, and I learned that apparently even a junk drawer can create a small project.

Not a bad way to start the week.

Now I am going to stop looking for things that need fixing and leave the rest for tomorrow.
