Nova Walking Through Leaves
Back when we lived in El Paso, my husband and I would travel long distances roughly once a year. Making the drive back and forth to Kansas City, and one year, to Dothan Alabama.
The drive to and back from Dothan was actually a pretty hard drive. I did the majority of the driving, which is fine, I'm a fantastic long distance driver, and my husband really dislikes driving long distances, but is fine being the passenger. (Until a couple years ago, I didn't have a license.) The problem with that drive is that they're really far away and we took the drive in two days each direction. We'd decided that we'd take it in three days the next time we did it, but now that we're back in Kansas City, the drive is actually shorter, believe it or not, making a two day drive less miserable.
Anyways.
Whenever we travel, we take the cats. At that time, we had Cosmo, Tuxie, and Nova. Apollo was with my genetic cesspool, and Comet wasn't even a thought in anyone's head, because Comet isn't even a year old yet and we've only had him since February. (Now that we have five, traveling, if we do, is gonna be interesting...)
So yeah. The long drive being made into two days each way, instead of broken up between three days, it was hard on the cats.
But this is Nova, walking around at a rest stop in Mississippi a couple years ago. One of the really awesome things about traveling long distances, to me, at least, is the fact that the cats (at least, the older three, I only flew with Apollo once almost six years ago when he was a tiny kitten, so I don't know how he'll be these days) actually seemed to like it. It was tiring, yeah, but for the most part, they liked getting to walk around truck stops and rest stops. It was an adventure for them.
So here's a video I took of Nova, during our Thanksgiving journey from El Paso to Dothan and back again. (I didn't post it until January, but it was in November.)

I lived in Alabama 3 years. I hated driving through the state because the roads were horrible. I love your cat. Nova has a beautiful coat. My tuxedo cat Vicki has been to over 19 states on road trips. We never put her on a lease though. Once she escaped into some woods after 12 hours of driving. She had fun making me chase her through thick brush for an hour. lol.
The three we traveled with in the past are all familiar with a leash. The other two? We're not so sure about. We're gonna work on getting them to walk on leashes and with harnesses and get them used to car rides. That way, if we do have to travel in the future, it won't be just one giant nightmare of a learning experience for all of us.
Alabama roads are a lot like Missouri roads, and better than 2/3 of Oklahoma roads. So it wasn't that bad for us.
Nice kittty!!!!!
