A New Year and a New Year Art Resolution
Here we are in a new year and here is a new piece of art.
I have been racking my brain this past week trying to decide how best to focus my "New Year's Art Resolution".
As I mentioned before, each year I like to try and find a focus for the new year in my art. This takes the form of the Art Resolution. And the goal is to usually get it down into one sentence or two that really gives me that goal for the year.
I am often all over the place with my style.
I love to play with different mediums and style in my work, so it can sometimes appear that I am not focused, but in fact I just enjoy the variety.
However, this year I wanted a focus of style to be part of that Art resolution.
This morning I started messing about with this sketch. And then I even did two other odd iterations of it, just playing with different mediums and colour.
I know it isn't there yet, the style I'd like to focus on this year, but it's coming. I can feel it trying to be realized in my psyche.
The overall goal and direction, though, I have decided on. And it is as follows:
To create pieces both decorative and artful focusing on animal and the female form.
A year long collection inspired by Nature. Taking inspiration from the English countryside and my seaside home in New England.
This feels right; as if this is a direction I can get behind and ride throughout this year. I am still focusing on the things I love: Animals and the Female form.
Well, I had meant to get my first post for 2019 out sooner than this, but it has been an odd sort of morning trying out new brushes and tools on my wacom and really trying to focus.
I hope all of you had a wonderful celebration last night, whether it was a party or solitary reflection, and I hope for you and all of us, really, a wonderful and creative New Year here on Steemit!
Please feel free to upvote, resteem, and by all means leave a comment.

I really like how elegant and calm she sits on this artwork, with a nice cup and two of her furry companions. And I like your new year's resolution too. I wonder why you don't like drawing men though?

Thank you @scrawly I love dogs and female form and tea and colour so it encompasses my passions.
I'm not sure why I don't draw men. I have done a few little boys in fields with dogs, but not very many men. If I have done, which it's been years, they are usually supporting cast members to the work.
I love men and I even think the male form beautiful, but for some reason I just don't seem to naturally gravitate towards that?
It could possibly be that I subconsciously (and sometimes quiet consciously) see myself as the female character in my pieces, like little plays, so am automatically inclined to make the form female. Interesting to ponder, though.
So nice piece! I tink you sarted your year really in a nice way about your art resolutions! Animals and female form, I can't wait to see your 2019 work, dear Donna!
Thanks @silviabeneforti and aren't you excited to get some more art under way in this new year? I can't wait to see where your little figures go!
Well, I knew I couldn't do just ONE thing for a theme in my challenge, so I figured animals and female form are my favourite things to paint, so let's see if I can really focus that into a particular pattern. It will be interesting to say the least.
So cute! Absolutely love the puppies!
Thanks so much @bdmillergallery I love dogs, so easy to start with them.
ood resolutuon, by the way i think you have your own cool style, i cant' wait to see your next works!
Thank you, I do feel that I do have my own style, but sometimes it seems a bit all over the place so part of this year is Focus. Thanks @noemilunastorta
You are one of the artists that I had been looking forward. I love your art style particularly how you begin with your line art first hand.
Thank you so much @gailbelga, I always sketch and layout my works first, not sure why, just a planner I think. And I love sketching and many times one sketch will become many iterations of a final piece or sometimes it just remains a sketch in a journal.
So nice of you to read sweet words. Anyway, I will really need to allot time for myself to sketch. Thank you!
I'm kind of in the same boat, doing a lot of different things. Maybe it is not best for market but it feels right for me. You have an interesting challenge there, also looking forward to see how it develops. Happy New Year!
I've usually been fine with my 'many style' approach @mikkolyytinen but this year I really want to feel more focus. And I love a good art challenge so it's fun to see where it will take me.
Ah this is the sketch coloured in the following post!
Well Donna go for it! 😉
I personally don't like constraining myself too much so I may like you vary a lot on "styles" and techniques but we all have a sort of trademark no matter what medium of technique is used and I think you already have that. 😉
I personally like a lot the high contrast B&W artworks you make, a lot more than their coloured versions, due of personal taste, as you mainly use light and bright colours and I prefer stronger and darker shades hehe.
Although those digital paints without visible line art you have done, I like a lot :3
But no mater what I say, this is your path and resolution so I wish you success in this endeavour!
💙 hugs!
I hope we can get together to make that collab we have pending haha 😉
A very classy lady, I love her pose and her little hat <3 Both dogs look so adorable :D
Your resolutions seem like what you have been doing so far, Donna ! I am sure you can meet it well :)
I look forward to seeing more of your work in this style and you keeping to your resolution for your art for the coming year
I do love these pieces you shared with us
Happy Sunday and have a great day
