oh I love spalted maple, these are just beautiful! Where I am from in southeast Alaska there are a lot of big burls on birch trees caused by fungus that yield some amazing patterns when cut and polished. It is interesting to think that an invading fungus ends up becoming such a thing of art. Makes my alien eyeball happy :)
