Caluya Shrine; the newest attraction in Misamis Occidental, Philippines
"It looks like you are in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil because the Shrine is like a replica of Rio de Janiero’s statue of Jesus Christ, the Redeemer" That’s what most Filipinos would say when they have seen a photo or got into the place. Guess what? it is only found here in the Philippines!
"Caluya Shrine" is located in Sapangdalaga, Misamis Occidental. Tourists and locals can enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountains, Caluya Bay and Murcielagos Bay at Caluya Shrine. Besides the captivating view, visitors can also enjoy the fresh air. It is one of the tourist attractions in the province of Misamis Occidental. There’s a 45-feet high, huge statue of Jesus Christ, which is known as Christ the Redeemer, standing up on top of a hill.
There are floating cottages too, where visitors can have a picnic while swimming or watching the lake and its scenery.
The Shrine is a 30-minute drive from the town’s center. Commuting visitors can take a habal-habal for fares that range between P40 and P70. The “habal-habal” (motorcycle) can be found waiting in the market where you they can give you a ride. But if you have your own vehicle, you can look for their signage at the crossing. It is on the left side of the road when you’re from the town proper. You can also ask the friendly local people if you’re not sure where to go.
When I got there, the local government already developed the place and added stairs going up on the statue. I haven’t counted the stairs because I was mesmerized, but if you haven't exercise while walking through these trail, you'll be breathing hard. While walking on the stairway, you will enjoy watching the beautiful scenery and will appreciate nature and God's creation. It’s so worth it! If you are a nature lover, you will really like the place.
