Today In The News: More Trump De-rage-ment, Kim Jung Un-Certainty, Georgia Opening up, & More!

in #ocd4 years ago (edited)

I have this thing, its a condition, called thinking.

Normally, going to the google news page is sort of a guilty hobby for me. You see, I don't have cable television, I don't normally watch the news. I do browse "mainstream media" but only intermediately.

I do browse the titles of articles, and rather than reading them from the wonder of "what is going on in the news today" to "what do they want to tell us and get us to argue about today". Having a different perspective can sometimes give you some "armor" in looking into what is being reported.

In Today's News: Trump Is Not A Doctor

Every. Single. Day. that I go to google.com/news, the "Headline" news is about Trump.

I am an anarchist and I hate politicians as a rule so normally politician belittling is always in season for me. The problem that I have is that it isn't from an aspect of disrespecting the government in general, but only for "a team". So it is hard for me to be on board when I know their criticism is mostly opportunistic and overblown.

First article:
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/04/trump-ends-covid-19-briefing-abruptly-inject-disinfectant-200425053311281.html

The video sounds like propaganada to be honest. They say that Trump suggested injecting disinfectant? I listened to the audio and that isn't what he said. The video then goes on to say that a major disinfectant company had to launch a campaign to not take the president's advice (advice?). Is this a joke? They also said that in New York and Maryland officials said that poison control hotlines were "flooded" with calls looking for a wonder drug (that's Trumps fault? What does that even mean? Sounds like complete bullshit).

The next link:

The video is bascially something said off hand and the media ran with it.

Funny quote: "Maryland's emergency management agency said they received about 100 calls today on disinfectant use" (Um... sounds reasonable during a viral pandemic?).

If you watch either of those two videos and think that trump was saying people should inject disinfectant ... maybe you should inject some disinfectant.

What's Going on In North Korea?

image.png

Lot's of conflicting reports. I can only speculate that if the world is saying he might be dead, the ego would probably force him out to prove he is alive. I also expect the North Koreans to have no idea what the world is saying so it is hard to even imagine he HAS to come out to prove it.

The conspiracy person in me says that maybe he had a simple surgery and it gave intelligence an opportunity to cause some rumors. I remember South Korea coming out really quick saying that it isn't true so that certainly adds some confusion.

We will see, I suppose.

A 1993 video has surfaced that appears to show the mother of Tara Reade, the former aide to Joe Biden who has accused him of sexual assault, talking about "problems" her daughter faced on CNN’s "Larry King Live."

US Coronavirus Death Toll "Passes 50,000"

I'm no doctor, I don't work in a hospital, I have only been doing minor research on everything going on. I hope that the early projections that the death tolls may be lower than expected continues to be true as we learn more.

I just feel that we haven't really learned much over these past few weeks ... at least, I don't feel we have been taught much. Perhaps there is too much of a political interest in keeping it that way?

Too Soon?

Jittery Americans worried about the spread of the virus watched as Peach State Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican, allowed hair and nail salons, barber shops, massage businesses and gyms to reopen. It marked the first major step back from a statewide stay-at-home order in the country as Kemp hoped to kick start his state after weeks of pandemic-induced economic pain.

Don't you love how partisan "news sources" love putting in the party when they are doing something their "team" doesn't agree with?

In their defense, concern is reasonable. I wonder how they came to the conclusion to include those businesses. I can almost imagine the meeting:

"Yeah, what should we open up?"
"Hmm.. I don't know, how about the things that pose the least risk of spreading the Coronavirus?
"Great Idea, I'll go with the occupations most likely to spread it."

Well-written human interest story on Chicago. Illinois has extended the stay-at-home order 30 days. (Interesting that Michigan's Governor "Hitl-mer" only extended it "14 days").

Golf courses and state parks will open again. Nonessential stores can offer curbside pickup. Some elective medical procedures will resume.
Pritzker loosened the previous restrictions on one condition: Everyone must cover their faces in public, unless they are younger than 2 or medically unable to do so.

I feel that is a reasonable thing to do, what about you?

If you read through this and got to this point, tell me in the comments one positive thing in your life from the stay-at-home orders.

Thanks for reading, see you next time!
