Answer: What do you make of University of Oklahoma student Samantha Fulnecky's essay on gender, which resulted in her failing the assignment?
For context, this is a question I answered on Quora
For context this is the article she was supposed to react to in her essay:

It makes no mention of multiple genders, LGBTQ or transgenders. The subject matter of the article is entirely unrelated to the culture war about how many genders there are or whether you can change it, which was really not an issue when this article was published in 2014 or the previous years when the study was conducted. The actual subject of the hypothesis is how peer pressure to conform to stereotypes about binary boy/girl identity affect their social status among peers and consequently their mental health. At no point in her mindless screed did she address the hypothesis, methodology used to test it, results, or the implications.
- Her paper vaguely alludes to the bible but does not reference it. A reference would include book, chapter and verse which she didn’t do at any point in her aimless and redundant ramblings.
- The bible is an entirely inappropriate reference in a social psychology class, especially one taken as a junior, for an assignment that asks you to analyze a survey research study’s parameters, methodology, results and implications.
- This was a science class, albeit a soft social science class, but nonetheless one where you actually have to engage in research, substantiate your claims with scholarly sources, and remain open to alternative hypotheses and theories instead of regurgitating religious dogmas. At no point did she reference anything from the actual study assigned to her or substantiate anything she said even with bible citations.
Even as a right of center straight white male I would give her paper a zero for being completely off topic. Apparently, she is also a pre-med student. I hope for her sake and the sake of the medical school or any future patients she might treat this is not her default response to scientific inquiry. Could you imagine her telling people that they are sick because god afflicted them for their sins and they should just pray for better health?
