When is censorship OK?
Is it a crime to "insult" someone? Should Police be requesting/enforcing restrictions on social media use?
I don't agree with most of what these people are saying, but it's their right to say it. There is no freedom of speech if there is censorship.
People are allowed to be insulted, or offended - nothing happens! They don't get offended and wake up the next morning missing an arm!
The state of the world offends me.
I feel like I'm living in 1984 and there's nothing I can do to stop it.
Thoughts?
Maybe the Key word here is "threathening". Threats should be always looked as something to be careful about.
I have no Idea who are these people on the articule posted nor the context, but i think there is always a thin line between freedom of speach and respect of someone elses rights.
As an example, would you defend the freedom of speech of someone that openly do racists speeches, and start inciting people to punch kill a Black skinned person (or jew, or asian, or gay, or woman, etc) every?
Like i Said, i dont know the context, but we must have in mind that you must have freedom of speech, but also suffer the consequences of your words.
If the words were threatening, then I think that would be a problem. There is a fine line between free speech and dangerous speech. But I generally agree that being offended shouldn't be a criteria used to justify censorship.
