hi @modern-trojan
you have both writing skills and artistic skills in the design: how lucky! do you write about history by passion or is it your job?
congratulations and thanks for sharing with us
First a big thanks for reading! I'm actually computing and control engineering student, and I write and paint passionately for the two reasons: because I like to, and because I like to crush stereotype that engineers aren't creative...
Lovely story! But what attracted me most was your own paintings.. You are very much talented truly with your hands. I love your creativity in creating stories in your art works.
Your drawings are great @modern-trojan. It reminds me of the masterpiece that was created by one of our national artists here in our country, Spoliarium by Juan Luna. It is also depicted during the Roman Era. I am really fascinated by the prowess of gladiators. I don't know if you have watched the Spartacus or heard about it. It is a great story too. I don't know if you also got some inspiration from it because it talks about a gladiator who led a slave uprising against the Romans.
It is just sad that your main subjects have met a terrible end against Illyrians. Your portrayal is a good example that you can't defeat a well equipped and well-trained soldiers especially when you fight them head-on. You must be smart and not play by their rules.
Thanks for the share mate. This has really caught my interest because I also love history and ancient warfare. Cheers!
First of all thanks for reading, I haven't got more beautiful comment in a while. I have watched Spartacus and it was an inspiration for one of stories I wrote before. This one was set during Illyrian uprising against Romans which happened at 6 AD. Although the story was fictional, it portrays the reason why Illyrians rose up against Rome. As Bato - rebel leader rose said this when they captured him:
"You Romans are to blame for this; for you send as guardians of your flocks, not dogs or shepherds, but wolves."
