AN AFRICAN INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE

MUSICAL FUNCTIONS OF DIFFERENT AFRICAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENT
African instruments are instruments specifically used by Africans in performing it's traditional music. These are instrument made from African materials which bears traces to African origin and are differ from that of the western world.The purpose of this write up is to outline the musical functions of different African musical instrument as well as present a video clip of an African instrumental ensemble.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND ITS FUNCTIONS:
•SILT WOODEN DRUM:
These instrument functions me-rythmically by providing both rhythmic and melodic support in the ensemble. It serves as the mother instrument in an ensemble .
•XYLOPHONE:
Though still a melo-rhythmic musical instrument,it mainly perform melodic functions. It is usually the main melodic instrument in an African ensemble.
•TALKING DRUM:
As the name implies,the talking drum provides speech function. It imitates the speech patterns of the human voice.
•CLAPPARS:
These are wooden instrument which serves as pulse marker. They outline the time line and the heart beat of the music being played.
