Godliness and Its Profits

in #partiko7 years ago

Paul the apostle affirms to the truth that physical exercise profits a man and so does exercise unto godliness.

The difference is that, physical exercise profits only the body and probably the mind but exercise unto godliness profits the whole man (Spirit,Soul and Body).

This truth contradicts the belief that says "godliness, which is living for God devotedly, makes you loose out of the great things in life."

Godliness holds great promises in this life, and also in the life to come.

Godliness Pays!

We can't live in godliness and lose out of all the good things in life.

He doesn't withhold good things from them that walk uprightly.

It is also worthy of note here that its profits comes as we actively engage ourselves in the exercise unto godliness.

When you are godly, there is a profit

Ways which godliness is profiting unto

  • Protection
  • Promotion
  • Fruitfulness
  • Prosperity
  • Victory
  • Wisdom

David knew and could testify that the Lord sets apart the godly for himself because overtime, he had enjoyed God's protections from vile and attacks from enemies.

Those who are set apart by God are kept under his protection.

Anyone could be susceptible to attack and be defeated or wounded but not the man God has set apart for himself.

He can only get exposed to danger when God himself is exposed.

Joseph was someone who enjoyed God's favor and promotion as he devoted himself to God. He was sold into captivity, he was put in prison but at the end godliness paid off.

The first word God communicated to man after creation was a blessing to be fruitful and multiply.

The ability to do so was built into man from creation.

We understand that man fell short of His glory as a result of his disobedience to God, but the ability to be fruitful was still in him but lies dormant to some extent.

God in his loving nature, went ahead to make a provision for man to return to a better position where fruitfulness is guaranteed and that is through His Son Jesus Christ.

Obedience and service to God guarantees our access to prosperity and pleasures.

Some persons have come to believe that prosperity makes a man go astray from God and so it is better to be poor so that you don't get distracted from God. That's a lie.

God's word through out scripture brings to our knowledge the truth that following God's word and instructions makes our ways prosperous.

If prosperity is bad for the godly then God such provision.

The man who is devoted to God has his source of prosperity from God that never runs out of resources.

Gideon's army in our reading simply watched the army of the Midians fall into panic and disorderly retreat.

Not one man had to draw his sword to defeat his enemy.

He has made us more than conquerors in life and so our victory is certain on the assurance that he has fought the battles and overcame.

We fight from victory to maintain our victory: we do not fight to be victorious.

It is therefore worthy of note that every man needs wisdom to handle the affairs of life correctly and profitably.

We may be faced with battles and setbacks in life right now, but it will end in victory for us as we stay in obedience and commitment to God.

Prayer:

Lord I thank you for the promises you place in this life and that which is to come in exercise unto godliness. I receive grace to be devoted in it. Amen

Reflection:

It pays to be godly, now and hereafter.

1 Timothy 4:8-9 (NIV)
8 For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
9 This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.

Thank you for this wonderful message
