Jesus and the path of Cain: Because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous. 1 John 3:12

The First Epistle of John is clearly a thematic continuation on the subject of spiritual love and the gift of eternal life, written by the apostle most loved by Jesus, and addressed to several Churches in Asia Minor. The epistle, intended to counteract many heresies that prevailed in the first century after Christ, such as Gnosticism, teaches what true faith consists of and what it means to be children of God through the spiritual communion with the divine master.
According to John's thinking, conversion requires the fulfilling of the commandment of the spiritual love: "We should love one another" 1 John 3:11. A love that must be realized in a righteous life; in this sense, according to John's theology, being Christian means always acting according to ethical principles, that is, the Golden Rule: "Do to others what you would have them do to you" Matthew 7:12. Only those who act in this way can be fully blessed.
Because the opposite of this is to lead a life full of sins, and those who follow this path cannot inherit eternal life, but instead encounter misfortune and dangerous stumbling rocks, that is, destructive unforeseen events. This is why John included the example of Cain and Abel in his epistle, to remind the recipients of the letter that men have the freedom to choose between two paths, and following Jesus is rejecting the path of Cain. And so the apostle referred to these brothers, children of Adam and Eve: "Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's were righteous" 1 John 3:12.
The apostle most beloved by the Lord then went on to explain that the sacrament of baptism is the passage from death to life, because the true spiritual life of man is to love his neighbor and to fulfill the Lord's beatitudes. The Kingdom of God, the government or dominion of the divine perfections, announced by Jesus, is thus presented as a challenge, because there is no middle ground, it's impossible to serve God and money at the same time; Christians are either friends or enemies of God, and those who love the things of the world cannot love God, because worldly love comes from concupiscence. To follow the path of love of Jesus and reject that of Cain, this is the invitation that John made to the first Christians, to bear witness to the faith.
