Digging at Our Current Psychology

Hello Dear Friends,

Today I would I like to discuss a very sensitive matter, which is crucial for our understanding of violence. Well, I am sure we all are aware what this word stands for; an infliction of atrocities of any kind.

**If I quote a lexical definition- **

‘ Behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something’

If violence is a crime; isn’t accepting it is an even bigger crime. So are we becoming criminals??

quote-no-society-that-feeds-its-children-on-tales-of-successful-violence-can-expect-them-not-to-believe-margaret-mead-284818.jpg
This is a pressing question, which stems from our current psychology. We all witness every day a lot of violence and pain around us. We might not be the victims of it, but we are the spectators. Let's take for example in daily new there are hundreds of stories, which dig into infliction of atrocities be it on women, children, animals, refugees or nature. What is your reaction to watching them???

If I run through my emotions; I observe a pattern in which emotions play for being a spectator.

Shock:- Firstly the heinous crimes shock us, gives us a chill. For a moment they seem so beyond our imagination that believing such an occurrence is tough.

Trauma:- then comes the part where one is being disturbed by such a crime; it traumatizes one mentally and one can feel deep pain and agony.

Empathy:-following this would be a sense of pain which we feel when we empathize.

Aggression:- empathy will lead to aggression and agitation with a detailed introspection about the world around us. Such an introspection where humanity seems to be so doomed.

Helplessness:- the visual reality creates a sense of helpless where being within our four walls your comfort zone, one would not be able to do much. Though there is a strong will to bring change; the path seems full of roadblocks to climb; the inability of a single individual takes the course.

Forgetfulness:- This helpless will lead to forgetfulness, where even though our spirit is against such violence but we acquiesced to it. Now when we see a similar crime in future our emotions are toned and the pain and agony have calmed. We cajoled ourselves to the reality of frequent happenings and the nerve-racking emotion has deteriorated.

Friends take for example crime like rape, refugee exploitation, genocide has become common news rather than nerve-racking happening. They are recurrent crimes. When we saw the plight of Syrian refugees our agitation for the cause was stronger than what we have for Rohingya. Maybe the Nirbhaya rape case made us leave our comfort zone and move on roads to agitate for the cause but several similar heinous rape cases succeeding that we witnessed but acquiesced to them.

Isn't it we are becoming used to a world with more violence and less compassion? Is it really acquiescence or our helplessness??

Would like to seek your opinion on this topic?

We need to become more compassionate and work for the cause of peace so that we truly hold a human society. May my pen act as a weapon for the cause of peace. Let's not accept violence in any form be it physical, mental, visual or psychological.

Let's hold onto principles of Mahatma Gandhi:- Truth, Non-voilnce (ahimsa) and Brotherhood.

great post. i fully support.
you need to go to the root cause also of the problem. the system nourishes the evil sprites. a common man is not interested in violence, neither can he afford it. he is interested in living in peace. the greedy, unsatisfied crooks become psychos are such violence lovers.
today judiciary, police and politicians are totally corrupted and they want the support of musical power. so they nourish these evil doing in humans. common man can either do or afford that. that is why these evil soul survives.
that is why movies with a hero who can hit hundred with single hand runs successfully.
while we protest these Violence's silently we should bring change in political system i.e. to elect peace loving candidates in-turn they can bring change in police and judicial system then only the Violence comes control. till then it remains our dream.
i am not a pessimist. but talking about the practically going on social evils. put your brain in these lines also.

some one should raise the thought. you started... let people put mind on it. let us all live in peace. Ji Hindi.

Thank you sir. I really appreciate the way you elaborated on the root, that is the real reason we are nurturing violence in many forms. Cinema is one of them. Politics and corruption are another set of this evil realm. We should spread peace.

thank you for taking it in the seance i wanted to convey. your start of the very vital and sensitive issue is appreciable. but more and more workable solutions to be invented....
don't stop it here. take it ahead.

I wish there were more people like Gandhi today,
One of the greatest people we had.

Violence is increasing all the time, We're not helping enough to stop it.
Children in schools are very violent and there is nothing to do with them.
We live in tension all the time and look for who to blame for everything.

We need to look for a little more quiet and relaxed for us and for others.

A very thoughtful insight, i believe that this acceptance of violence by us in various forms is also a reason that we have started to believe in a world with no compassion.

true, even in schools, it is becoming a way of life... something has to be done

You can see it in a different way but,
Who among us does not like action movies?
We like the action in them, It's the same in our lives

me too see action movies. i like and watch. but internally i feel happy that at least in my imagination hero is doing what i can't do wanted to do...

Thanks for bringing up this important subject. Yes, as we are getting used to others' pain and suffering our brain chooses to ignore it. That's why, for example, when someone gets hurt in an accident most people just pass by and do not help. However, this is also partially due to the crowd effect - "if everyone is passing by, it's OK for me to pass by also". It is noted that when someone surrounded by a crowd needs help, it can take a long time for someone to approach him, but once one person approaches, usually many more will follow. So be that first one and help! : )

A very good new approach you brought to light. The crowd effect, yes we have left our personal decisions on what others do. We will follow but not lead. Thank you for this thoughtful comment.

Good post on violence. Thanks for sharing it.

Long live teamIndia

Thanks sir.

Isn't it we are becoming used to a world with more violence and less compassion? Is it really acquiescence or our helplessness??

This is the sad reality and people don't think something is serious unless it affects them directly. This should change. Great post.

Thanks friend. I know the worst part is very few pay heed to such introspection.

friend, even it happens them directly, how many could do any thing about it? negligible... reason the dower is evil and has satanic support of either police, political, judiciary or with strong muscle power.
i do not know of all but most of the individuals get angry and their heart burns as soon as see or hear such thing. but helplessness and they are week. not a movie hero. so what to be done, how to support a weak common man???

I really like reading this post.
keep sharing.

Thanks mehak
