I've never heard of a mason bee. For a second, I thought they sounded similar to the carpenter bees that I have in the yard; but after looking it up, they are different. Too bad you say they don't produce any harvestable honey!
They don't, but they're more effective pollinators. Here's a bit more cool information:

Is be really interested in seeing a homestead that incorporated systems for both honey bees and Mason bees. Get the good honey from one and the awesome pollination from another. Biodiversity is a great force to harness, right? :)
