Miracles on Tap.

in #philosophy7 years ago

Do you agree that miracles are just a matter of perspective? For example, if we visited some the world’s most remote areas and we told the local inhabitants about how we live in the Western world, they wouldn't believe us. Some of these people will have never experienced electricity. If we tried to explain to these people that we in the Western world no longer work because we have electricity, they would be more than a little sceptical.

They wouldn't believe that we don’t have to walk all the way to the river with a heavy water container to fill and then all the way back again just to have a limited amount of water nearby. They definitely wouldn't believe that we can command water to pour out of the wall and into a basin just by turning the handle on a tap. After having a good laugh at us these people would ask how this is possible.

We could them explain to them that that electricity pumps the water up into high towers and that gravity causes the water to flow into the basin once the tap is opened. Of course we would then be asked to explain what electricity is.

We could then patiently explain that electricity is the movement of electrons in a good conductor and this movement does all the work for us now. Of course, then we would be asked to show these people what an electron looks like.

We could then try to explain to these people that electrons are invisible because they’re so small. Of course, this wouldn't help our cause and they’d look at us as if we’re mad and ask if we aren't perhaps talking about the spirits of our ancestors.

It’s only when we physically showed the effects of electricity that we’d have a breakthrough in understanding. We could demonstrate electricity to these people by asking them to switch on a light or something similar. Only then would they see that there may be some merit to what we’re saying. To these people, electricity is mysterious and miraculous!

Practicing hypnotherapy in the Western world is a bit like being a Westerner trying to explain what electricity is to the villagers living in the world’s most remote areas! Hypnosis is an invisible force for good and so some people don’t fully believe it and treat it with suspicion. This suspicion and scepticism dissolves quickly once hypnosis is understood and its benefits realized.

Basically there are two parts to the mind. There’s the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. Most people believe that the conscious mind is the part that controls us, but this isn't true. It’s the subconscious mind that’s in control. Because we spend most of our time in the conscious mind most people aren't aware of this fact.

Some people may not believe this fact. If you have any doubt, watch short video below. It shows a mask that rotates slowly on its axis. Half the time you see outside of the face of the mask and the rest of the time you see the inside of the face of the mask. Because you never see the inside of someone’s face, your subconscious mind is in the habit of only seeing the outside. For this reason, when you see the inside of the mask during this video, your subconscious mind will force you to see what it wants - the outside. You will see the inside concave face as if it’s the outside convex face you are accustomed to. You are unable to see it the way it really is. Try to take control of your subconscious mind if you don’t believe me and see the mask as it should be.

Having watched the video, you've proven to yourself that it’s your subconscious mind, and not your conscious mind, that’s in control of you. This is generally a good thing as the subconscious mind exists to keep you safe and to protect you from danger. Normally this works very well for us unless protecting ourselves becomes more important. Then it could become a problem.

For example, if an individual had witnessed many painful events involving the people closest to them, this individual may become afraid of viewing any more painful scenes. It might seem like a good idea to this individual’s subconscious mind to prevent this person from seeing completely, so as to protect this person from any more pain. To do this the subconscious mind could make this person blind or unable to open their eyes.

Using hypnosis a hypnotherapist is able to communicate directly with the subconscious mind and help the subconscious mind to remove this condition. Once removed, many people might consider this miraculous in the same way that people living in remote areas consider electricity miraculous. Of course this isn't true. Hypnosis is not miraculous, it just works the same as electricity just works once it’s understood and harnessed.

I'd like to hear from as to whether you agree or disagree with me. Do you know of any other effective methods to harness the power of the subconscious mind? Please let me know what you think?

Love it!

I'm trying to get into self-hypnosis, any good book to read ?

The problem with self hypnosis is that, in the beginning, you use your conscious mind to bypass the critical factor of the conscious mind. This is a bit like trying to lift yourself up in a bucket. It works a lot better when you are able to direct yourself without thinking with your conscious mind, because the goal is to bypass the conscious mind. So after a lot of practice, the directions become second nature in which case you don't engage the conscious mind and so self hypnosis is much more effective. So, I wouldn't buy a book on the subject, I would visit a very experienced hypnotherapist and get him/her to condition you to drop into hypnosis and give yourself suggestion linked to a trigger (anchor) such as pushing your thumb and index finger together. Hope this long winded answer helps!

Oh i see so it's much harder when you try alone.
The thing is, in Algeria there is no Hypnotherapist, that's why i'm trying to read a book.

Thanks for the fast and insightful answer.
Following you for further posts on Hypnosis.

Self hypnosis takes practice, but it's worth practicing. My favorite book on self hypnosis is "hypnosis and the art of self therapy" by Gordon Milne. Thanks for following!
