Panther Beach is a special place for me. Back when we first left MN and started traveling in December of 2013 it was so cold that we did a straight shot to California. Our first stop was to visit Stevi’s family in San Jose, and our second stop was Santa Cruz. This was my first time ever seeing the Pacific coastline. Right away I studied google maps satellite footage of the coastline looking for the most interesting parts nearby. The first place that stuck out to me on the map was Panther beach just a few miles north of Santa Cruz. We headed up there for sunset and it was incredible.

I have since gone back to this beach at least a dozen times and every time I come away with good unique photos. I was looking at all of my shots from here and wanted to pick one favorite to share. I don’t know for sure but it’s starting to seem as though my single photo posts are doing better then my multiple photo posts. Perhaps having all the focus on one image gets people to look at that image longer and appreciate it more? I have no idea, I am still testing this out and for this post I wanted to stick to a single shot.

I decided on the photo above, it's a 6 second exposure that I took one night after sunset. I posted a shot on Steemit last month that I took from the rocks below. Ocean long exposures can be very rewarding but also tricky. I had to do a bit of trial and error to get the waves looking just right.

Tip!

Shot looks great man! Great work. Good choice of exposure time.

I love long exposure and this is a beautiful photo! The colors are fantastic!

I always loved long exposures but usually just loved the ones with a lot of lights in cities. Honestly starting to like ocean long exposures more than city light ones!

Great photos man, much appreciated for sharing that here.

Spacious image. Great shot!

oh wow... love how it captured the water like that... you can do so much with long exposure... great photo...
