Smolensk. Part 2
We continue our walk through Smolensk. Lopatinsky garden is one of the most attractive places of the city. Originally, the park was planned as a landscape, now it looks modern.
A lot of attractions, summer cafes, dance floors, unfortunately, changed its cultural and historical basis. But there is still something to see here. At the main entrance, a monument to the governor and philanthropist Alexander Grigorievich Lopatin, who headed Smolensk province in 1871-1880, was recently installed and left a good memory of himself.
The monument to the defenders of Smolensk in 1812 is located in the Lopatinsky Garden. It is cast iron, its height is about 26 meters, and the total weight is about 30 tons. The monument has the appearance of a high polyhedral pyramid on a round base, around which are placed 8 pairs of columns with gilded eagles. The pyramid ends with a head in the shape of a bulb with a bronze gilded cross.
On the main avenue of the park is a model of Smolensk. The miniature allows you to view all the details of objects that have long since disappeared from the city map: the Odigitriev Church and the surrounding wooden houses.
In Lopatinsky garden there are a lot of cafes, the design of which is very colorful inside and outside.
