Milky Way in Cumberland Ohio
Two years ago in the summer, I decided to go camping by myself in a free camping zone, authorized by AEP (American Electric Power). Apparently, they bought the land to mine for coal, and when they finished they opened it up for free use to the public (you just need a free permit to use it). It was a very relaxing time, and while I was trying to shoot some milky way shots with the clear sky, a truck drove up (hence the lights in the bottom left corner) and lit up the trees. At first I was annoyed with him ruining my shot, until it finished processing on my camera and I got to see what happened. It lit up the trees and added a dynamic effect on the shot that I couldn't have done without him driving up into my shot. Suffice it to say, this ended up being my favorite shot from that weekend.
For those curious, if you are in or near Ohio, here is the site you can research this free campland more. https://www.aep.com/environment/conservation/recland/

I am very surprised that it is possible to take a photo like that not using a special telescope.
I've never seen such a beautiful sky here in Chicago.
Thanks for sharing 👍
What would be minimum camera requirements for that?
I had to travel more than two hours away from Columbus (where I live) to get a sky this nice free of light pollution from the city, and haven't had one that clear since. I used a Canon 6d and a Rokinon 24mm f1.4 which is ideal for star pictures.
Next time I go camping I'll take my camera with me and make sure I'll look up to the sky.
Thanks
Hay its really good to read your explanation of experience what you had fell about the photography. And its really beautiful
Thank you! I enjoy writing about the background of the photo. I'll be doing more in the future!
consider using alpha.steepshot.io, you might enjoy the experience more that way since it's a front end specifically designed for photographers. :-)
I noticed you mentioned that in an article you wrote. I plan on researching that and getting involved this evening hopefully! Thank you for the recommendation!

Amazing picture indeed. The lights from the truck have definitely given such a stunning effect that the colors have come up so well and magical.
I agree! That guy actually stopped then and asked what I was doing, and I gave him a whole run-through, ha.
Great pictures for sure. They look amazing.
Thank you!

I always like the stars and trying a lot with my cameras to capture something like this. Astonishing photo, congratulations
Thank you! A camera is half the battle, I had to travel about 2 1/2 hours to get skies that weren't polluted from the city. But it's a ton of fun to do!
That is amazing. @aweber
